We will be moving from CT. We won't have any furniture per se- queen size mattress and frame, assorted boxes. Any suggestions as to the most economical way to get our belongings down to The Villages?

For us the POD was the cheaper option and we did'nt have to be pushed to have it unpacked at a certain time. I also liked the fact we packed and unpacked it and knew what was in it and it was secured.

How long are you allowed to leave a pod sitting on your property in TV?

We moved from Shelton CT, had about the same type of goods you mention. We had a small 8 x 7 pod, plenty of room. If you can pack efficiently, that's the way to come down. You can cschedule your delivery date. They'll leave it overnight. Two people can unload it quickly. PODS has our vote.

Another vote for Pods.

I believe the district offices told us a 72 hour window. We actually had ours 6 days. Nothing was said to us mainly because our neighbors did'nt complain. In fact, we had a crowd watching the machine drop it off. If you have neighbors that do complain, tell em come help unload. LOL.

People use them to store furnishings and stuff during renovation or fire and damage repair also.

When we moved two years ago, I remember everyone on this board was recommending ABF over PODS. I checked into at the time, ABF was a smaller cube but was much cheaper. From Baltimore to TV two PODS were around $2500 and four ABF (Arkansas Best Freight) cubes were about $2800.
I had Mayflower's local affiliate come to my home and they gave me an estimate of $3400. That includes loading, although you pack your own boxes. We sold a lot of our furniture to the home buyer, I figured I would buy new stuff when I got here. We decided to go with Mayflower, and when they picked up our furniture and 71 boxes and took it all back to their warehouse, they called to say it would only be $2800 due to the weight was less than estimated. Jump ahead four weeks. We closed on our CYV on Tuesday July 5th and Mayflower was suppose to arrive on Friday July 8th. They didn't arrive until three weeks later, they didn't have a trip coming our way. I complained to the affiliate in Baltimore who said they had a United Van Lines truck headed to Tampa and there was room for our stuff, I said great, I don't care who delivers. They said to give the driver a check for $2800 as agreed to, and then gave me an email address to file a claim. The delivery was made on a Sunday, I emailed Mayflower the original mover on Monday, and on Friday in my mail box as a check for $2,000. The move ended up costing us only $800. / |
