Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
The person who said this to me was one of the organizers of the event. She said it to me on the day of the event.....at the event. I knew nothing about it. I had no way to confirm or deny it. She said, "I know you can find out the information on Talk of The Villages." I certainly was not going to look this lady in the face and say, "YOU........are a liar." She could have just as easily asked a reporter from the newspaper, but she knew there was no chance to get an answer there.
So, I asked the question here and I get a pie in the face. It was not negative or defensive, it was just a question. We have a pretty good idea why a couple of members are so touchy about sensitive topics here. Contrary to what a couple of people here would suggest, asking such questions is exactly what forums like this are for. This one, in particular, is not here to sell houses in the Villages. As members, you all have the freedom to exercise your rights to ask questions about things the would or could affect your life here, or just be plain interesting, without fear of ridicule from anybody. |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
I saw the Navy Seal ad in the Daily Sun. Buy your tickets at the box office for $20.
I thought it was strange, but when it change to "free" I was also curious about what happend. |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
The fee was $15 -- on sale at the box office. Just before we went to buy ours the newspaper said it was free. I read in the paper and heard on the radio that anyone who had already paid could go to the box offica and get their money back.
Big deal!!! |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe
And , there was also an evening $1000.00 a plate dinner with Jeb Bush for 'the Developers' insiders. (This is a fact not a rumor.)

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
The easiest way to provide proof of anything is links. If it was written somewhere it probably has a link. Or someone who received the paper with the ad could copy it and save it as an image and then put it on Photobucket or the like and we could all see it.
Not rocket science people! In the meantime Jan's question could be a good one - Why would there have been a charge in the first place and what caused it to be free - Poor sales maybe? PS - I found this link after my original post, it says the event is free. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...,7022854.story Another link posted on the 19th says free also: http://www.geezerjock.com/blog/view/id_67/ |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
This is a rumor from someone who got a refund on these tickets. They were going to go if they charged for it as she thought it would be less crowded than if it were free. She said that the Navy wanted this event to be free.
Again, this is someone I heard someone say about her plans for that Saturday. Have no idea if this is true or not. |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe
Lee Greenwood was great, Seals were great. (Never have jumped from a plane but it looks like fun -not sure my knees would make it ) It was a Good time - Thanks V illages for hosting it - as usual ; what a wonderful place to live with so much variety of things to do. Our biggest problem is needing more time to do all the things available to us.

"We have a pretty good idea why a couple of members are so touchy about sensitive topics here."
__________________________________________________ ___________________ I dont know if the above quote was aimed at me or not...if it was, it was way out of line and totally misdirected. I simply asked a question about discussing something that had to be out of context unless you were totally privy to ALL discussions and aware of ALL sides input into the event, Seems I offered my opinion, with no ax to grind and it would appear that I am certainly not the sensitive one. I havent posted much, and surely will not at all anymore. For the record as there were implications in the post...I have lived in The Villages since 2001...am not employed by The Villages...have no vested interest in The Villages. I was just a jerk offering my opinion. Thus whatever "idea" you have about folks,it does not apply to me ! |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
I don't know if it was misprinted but approximately 2 weeks prior to the event, there absolutely was an ad in The Daily Sun posting the cost of the tickets. I remember talking to my wife about the fee saying I would have liked to go but wasn't willing to pay the price. The following week, it was posted as free.

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
Back in 1996 we ran a Coast Guard concert in conjunction with our towns tricentennial celebration. We were going to charge a small fee to offset the cost of the fireworks to be run after the concert. When this hit the papers we were contacted by Coast Guard public relations and told if there was a charge for attendence they would back out of the performance.Their reason was that the taxpayers paid to support the band and they could not be charged to attend the concert.I suspect that this was the case here. And yes at first the tickets were priced at 20.00.

Advance tickets for “A Salute to the U.S. Navy’s SEALs” are available for $15 per person at The Villages box offices. Tickets at the gate will be $20 per person.

Wow, what a strange thread. :o
But it does sound like the show was decent! |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe
Well, it sounds like some TOTVers are able to DOCUMENT (not SPECULATE) that there was originally supposed to be a charge for this show (which as I said earlier I had not heard) and then it was changed to free. So? I'm still wondering if I'm missing something....
