I saw the same ad and was surprised that it was not free.

I know facts are cumbersome, but the $1000 a plate dinner that Jeb Bush attended at Lake Miona was a benefit for The Naval Special Warfare Foundation. FYI:

Mission

To provide educational and motivational support, promote health and welfare programs for the Naval Special Warfare Community, and perpetuate the history and heritage of the U.S. Naval Commandos.

Taxpayer ID#: 31-1728910

The Naval Special Warfare Foundation was incorporated in 2000 as a National Non-Profit Charitable Corporation. It was established to honor all, who have served in the sea commando services and perpetuates their heritage, values, and traditions.

What the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Foundation provides under the three pillars of the mission.

Education and Motivation

Multiple scholarship programs which have awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars

Provide computers to the children of NSW warriors killed in combat or training

Yearly donations to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation for college education of children whose Special Operations Forces fathers were killed in combat or training

Provide all active and reserve SPECWAR commands the CARE Book and the Scholarship Resource Network (SRN) software

SEAL and Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen (SWCC) Navy Sea Cadet Corp (NSCC) orientation courses

Provide tuition assistance to active duty Naval Special Warfare personnel to defray the cost of books and supplies

Health and Welfare

Supporting families of SEALs killed in the War on Terror covering lodging expenses, airfare, memorial receptions, etc.

Financial planning offered to widows of SEALs and SWCC whose husbands were killed in combat or training

Assist active duty commands with expenses connected with the death of a NSW operator that is not combat/training related

Sponsor active duty family events: Children’s Christmas parties; NSW Campout (formerly SEAL Pups); Easter egg roll; NSW Kid’s Sports Day, etc.

Over $200,000 in Life Fitness Treadmills given to wives of SEALs

Supporting SBT-22 and NAVSCIATT Hurricane Katrina victims

SEAL Wives Against Terrorism (S.W.A.T.) tour, 2003 and 2005

Matt Bourgeois Leadership Award for NSCC

Sponsorship of NSCC Trident Team
Holiday help for needy family

Support NSW families who lost homes in the San Diego fires

History and Heritage

Mural at SEAL Team 10 honoring those SEALs lost in Afghanistan June 2005
Co-publish a quarterly magazine, “The BLAST , Journal of Naval Special Warfare”

NSW Plaque at the Navy Memorial in Washington, DC

Monuments honoring Naval Commandos at Veterans Memorial Parks

Original Art Program – “Rock Portage” and “Hunting Al Qaeda”

Memorial Garden in SEAL Park

Bricks laid at the Tidewater Veteran’s Memorial for the SEALs killed since 9-11
SEAL display at San Diego Veterans Museum and Memorial Center
Donation to the Special Operations Memorial in Tampa, Florida

And no, they probably didn't serve crow.

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?

I was trying to figure out what a Jeb Bush dinner has to do with a great Navy Seals program. Nice to know the dinner was for a foundation supporting the Seals. Thank you for clearing that up, Muncle.

As to the rest of this thread, isn't it time to lay it to rest? As was said, it was a great show, it cost nothing and a good time was had by those who attended.

(Why the issue of the original charge was brought up is beyond me, but whatever.)

I looked up specious and still don't know what it means

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe

Chuck, I looked it up too:

Main Entry: specious
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: misleading
Synonyms: apparent, apparently right, beguiling, captious, casuistic, colorable, credible, deceptive, delusive, empty, erroneous, fallacious, false, flattering, hollow, idle, illogical, inaccurate, incorrect, likely, nugatory, ostensible, ostentatious, plausible, pompous, presumable, presumptive, pretentious, probable, seeming, sophistic, sophistical, sophisticated, spurious, unsound, untrue, vain, wrong

But, I would like Muncle to explain this comment: "In some cases, it's providing an outlet for those with unnatural hatred of the developer (***** envy?) and/or disdain for the Daily Sun."

This, then, would make this thread worthwhile after all this hullabaloo!!

P.S. Fumar, I'll give you your $20 bucks if you come to the TOTV lunch April 18, 3pm.

Okay, Kathie, you asked for it. But first a little explanation of "specious twaddle." Contrary to what fumar might think, that phrase was not just a part of my vocabulary. Several years back while working on a project, someone opposed to our program issued a paper full of factual errors, innuendos, and political blockades seriously damaging us in the eyes of the brass. The boss's boss demanded a briefing refuting the claims of the paper. Our boss wanted a way to refer to the paper's content without giving it any respect but not belittling it. After wordsmithing for hours, we (the staff) all agreed that specious twaddle was the best description. The boss didn't use it, but the phrase has stayed with me.

Now for the other. I assume you are asking about the phrase in the (). I've noticed it not uncommon when a person of substantial income lives around those of significantly higher income he/she develops some resentment of those people. They might be very proud of being in the same club as various CEOs of major corporations but on the other hand, they resent their salaries, tax breaks, etc. Talking to one old friend in that situation, he just reminded me of the old psych text book description of ***** envy. Since then, I've noticed so many people who seem to resent others simply because they've done better, maybe had more breaks but bottom line is, they're wealthier. Reminds me of ***** envy. I believe an awful lot of people feel that way about the "Developer" and attribute all sorts of evil motives to everything he does with little or no evidence.

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?

Muncle - I want to party with you - nice work.

Now you know why I've never been to the political forum. Liberals, Republicans, Independents - it doesn't matter! It's all about the coin and the rest is just specious discussion.

If it took Jeb Bush's presence to raise $1000 a head for a good cause then that's what it took. If you don't think former Democratic leaders pull in some good cash for their appearances then you are sadly mistaken. They ALL do it if they have enough cache.

And every regular on this board knows exactly what Muncle meant about some members of this forum's disdain for the Sun and the developer. That doesn't mean that they don't have the right to make those arguments but let's not be naive about some motives.

Hope you guys don't argue like this on the pickleball courts - that would get brutal!

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?

I have never seen a topic go so far off track as this one.

BTW, I think it takes a great deal of gall to tell some of our posters that they are not being truthful about having seen, or even paid for tickets to this event. It sounds kinda like high school. "Ya, well.....ah.......I don't care if you do have facts......ah .....you can't prove it.....and ah............you're a liar, and ah......your mother wears Army boots.....nya, nya nya."

I reserve the right to post my thoughts just like everybody else. The numbers notwithstanding.

I suppose if you ran a forum you would enjoy low numbers ;D
