Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
I was trying to figure out what a Jeb Bush dinner has to do with a great Navy Seals program. Nice to know the dinner was for a foundation supporting the Seals. Thank you for clearing that up, Muncle.
As to the rest of this thread, isn't it time to lay it to rest? As was said, it was a great show, it cost nothing and a good time was had by those who attended. (Why the issue of the original charge was brought up is beyond me, but whatever.) |

Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe
I looked up specious and still don't know what it means
|
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fe
Chuck, I looked it up too:
Main Entry: specious Part of Speech: adjective Definition: misleading Synonyms: apparent, apparently right, beguiling, captious, casuistic, colorable, credible, deceptive, delusive, empty, erroneous, fallacious, false, flattering, hollow, idle, illogical, inaccurate, incorrect, likely, nugatory, ostensible, ostentatious, plausible, pompous, presumable, presumptive, pretentious, probable, seeming, sophistic, sophistical, sophisticated, spurious, unsound, untrue, vain, wrong But, I would like Muncle to explain this comment: "In some cases, it's providing an outlet for those with unnatural hatred of the developer (***** envy?) and/or disdain for the Daily Sun." This, then, would make this thread worthwhile after all this hullabaloo!! P.S. Fumar, I'll give you your $20 bucks if you come to the TOTV lunch April 18, 3pm. |

Now for the other. I assume you are asking about the phrase in the (). I've noticed it not uncommon when a person of substantial income lives around those of significantly higher income he/she develops some resentment of those people. They might be very proud of being in the same club as various CEOs of major corporations but on the other hand, they resent their salaries, tax breaks, etc. Talking to one old friend in that situation, he just reminded me of the old psych text book description of ***** envy. Since then, I've noticed so many people who seem to resent others simply because they've done better, maybe had more breaks but bottom line is, they're wealthier. Reminds me of ***** envy. I believe an awful lot of people feel that way about the "Developer" and attribute all sorts of evil motives to everything he does with little or no evidence. |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
Muncle - I want to party with you - nice work.
Now you know why I've never been to the political forum. Liberals, Republicans, Independents - it doesn't matter! It's all about the coin and the rest is just specious discussion. If it took Jeb Bush's presence to raise $1000 a head for a good cause then that's what it took. If you don't think former Democratic leaders pull in some good cash for their appearances then you are sadly mistaken. They ALL do it if they have enough cache. And every regular on this board knows exactly what Muncle meant about some members of this forum's disdain for the Sun and the developer. That doesn't mean that they don't have the right to make those arguments but let's not be naive about some motives. Hope you guys don't argue like this on the pickleball courts - that would get brutal! |
Re: The Navy Seals were great. Is it true that there was to have been a $20 fee?
I have never seen a topic go so far off track as this one.
BTW, I think it takes a great deal of gall to tell some of our posters that they are not being truthful about having seen, or even paid for tickets to this event. It sounds kinda like high school. "Ya, well.....ah.......I don't care if you do have facts......ah .....you can't prove it.....and ah............you're a liar, and ah......your mother wears Army boots.....nya, nya nya." |
