Default Need to have taxes done- Recommend a CPA?

Our appointment to have our taxes done fell through. Is there a CPA or other Tax Pro you Love and have used for years? This is our first year here. Up North we paid about $200 for a fairly simple return: Social Security, Pensions, and a bit of Rental Income. Thanks!

Can tell you who not to see. H&R Block in Lake Delton Plaza. They botched our taxes terribly last year. Paid about 10 K. Deductions were missed everywhere and we ended up getting almost a grand back from the IRS by their own volition…we never even asked. That should tell you just how bad they were. Lesson learned.

Default Tax help

You might try for and appt. with villages tax-aid. They are excellent and do not charge. You will find them on line. The process may take 2-3 hours but they are well trained and work hard to insure that all avenues are covered. Good luck.

OP, if you own rental property make sure you have records about the depreciation schedule that was set up when the property was purchased.

ditto for the free AARP tax preparation. When I first moved here I compared them with the CPA I formerly used and they did just as good a job for zero cost.

"Rental income is out of scope". They wouldn't take us.

Honestly, as we learned during and post pandemic, things can be done remotely. I’ve used the same CPA for years and in some seasons docu signed electronically. If yours is an actual CPA, why not stick with him/her?

We have used our CPA from out of state for the last 25 years. Very simple prep package(s)....very simple process...there is no reason to change.

Prefer to use someone familiar with Florida laws

If you are doing a Federal tax return, Florida laws don't apply. And, there is no state income tax in Florida.

That’s why I questioned you in an earlier post if you were actually using a CPA. A CPA works year round, knows IRS...and state revenue law. And can actually represent you before both. Seasonal ‘accountants’ work tax seasons. Moral of this story; you get what you paid for!

If you’ve had a long relationship with a CPA.....out of loyalty and respect, at least run it by him/her

We use our CPA from home state, has zero issues with Florida laws. Plus 20 years of doing our taxes is a bonus. FedEx up and back

We went that route this year. It only took a phone call.

I use Sally at Tom's Tax Service on 441 in Fruitland Park. Last year she got me an extra $500.00 when she asked if I made any improvements to my home. I told her I put a new roof on my house and she said that is worth a $500.00 federal (tax free) rebate.
