Default Filling Eastport’s Central Lake - The Villages Construction Update #128 6/13/23

As the title says, they’re filling Eastport’s Central Lake and I’ve some exclusive video footage of the filling. This is a huge milestone for the work happening at Eastport.

I’ve also included Well Point, Lake Denham, Richmond, and Dabney in this video. A brief look at Moultrie Creek, Shallow Creek Championship Golf Course, and Middleton. The progress at the Magnolia Plaza 7-11 and the Franklin Rec Center appears to have stagnated. I did a quick look at the many projects going on at the intersection of Powell Rd. and CR466A as well as at Lake Deaton Plaza. There’s a first look at the new VPSD Fire Station 48. I also took a jaunt up north to look at the Hacienda Hills area and Hobby Lobby under construction.

There’s another TAN segment, this time I’ll show you a comparison of Then And Now of the Village of Monarch Grove.

Enjoy,
Don

Hi Don,

Have you heard if they will allow Villagers to bring their own Kayaks / Canoes to Central Lake? Will they also offer on site storage of these Kayaks / Canoes ?

No word on any water activities other than dragon boat racing. If they do allow it, it will be much better than the much at Lake Okahumpka. More likely it will be similar to Cherry Lake (Lake Sumter) and activities will be very restricted. As far a storage, 1) I've seen nothing in any of the plans I've found for such a facility, and 2) it would have to be run by the Rec Department and it's highly unlikely they will take on the responsibility of watching after private property, way too much liability.

On the topic of other watercraft in Central Lake; it's a rectangular man-made lake, not much to see, after the first 45 minutes you'd have seen all there is to see. The only possible exception to this might be sculling; but then the lake is too short and too narrow for that sport, by the time they'd hit their rhythm, it would be time to turn again, not much of a workout. While a standard scull race is 1 KM, the lake doesn't have the extra length needed fully support such a race.

I was surprised that alligators had already moved into man made ponds.
