Happy to but first please clarify who the Villages Study Group is exactly. Is this an ad hoc group of village residents ? Is it a sanctioned group of the district representatives; or a study group selected by the developer's family ? Who are the members ? How many members from each district ? Thanks for the further clarification.

Of you take the survey, you can probably narrow down your guesses.

Says someone who has never endured a lightening strike. Delt with an insurance company lately?

I'd rather not need to repair roof and fire damage or the battle there insurance company to be reimbursed for the inconveniences replacing half the electronics and major appliances simultaneously.

Cost to mitigate the risk was little more than my deductable.

Or risk mitigate. More so with homes that have gas lines in the attic.

I've noticed The Villages installs lightening protection on key infrastructure buildings.

Seriously?

Honestly this is the ONLY place I have ever lived in Florida where people put 'lightning rods' on the roofs of their houses.... You should first study lightning not it's impact. Reason being there is no real true solution for a home owner. If you want a lightning rod then it has to be a certain distance from what you don't want the lightning to touch. If you want surge protection, well that's a fantasy. the only true surge protection is to not run on anything that would surge, i.e., conditioned power which puts a layer between you and the elements.

These are things known by any well designed data center. lightning stikes far to fast for the common surge protector to catch. and those rods may attract the lightning but that small gauge wire is no where large enough to carry the power.

By your survey, i'm not sure what you think you will solve it looks more like a survey to find more unsuspecting people to get to buy rod installations.

I can't see where our survey is better than weather data unless it's a in for a sales call

The idea of putting in lightning protection because out of the thousands and thousand of homes here, it's gomg to be OURS that will burn to the ground from a lightning strike. The SOLE reason we did so was because of attic gas lines. Where we lived up north, black pipe was reqiored for gas. Here our gas lines appear more like a very heavy duty cardboard! In truth it allows for faster, cheaper construcrion. I don't profess to be a well of knowledge on the subject. We just felt that whatever protection a system would provide in relation to the content and placement of the gas lines in our home made it worthwhile to do..

You are misinformed based on some of the comments you made in you post. The answers and information on Lightening Protection Systems can be found here -> Lightning Protection Systems
