Over the years I have seen occasionally, on this site, that someone, who probably is single, needs transportation to a doctor's appointment or to somewhere to shop, or ....whatever. It gets more difficult as we age to have to find our way and stay on top of things. Yet everywhere we turn that problem seems to crop up. It shall happen to everyone of us, if we live long enough.
There is no TV company to call that I have seen, other than a taxi, or local neighbors or friends, but we all know those can get expensive or we don't want to misuse our friends over and over. I am wondering if any of you have ideas of how we can solve this problem. Please send ideas, suggestions, questions, needs you're looking how to solve, regarding transportation......like maybe a TV bus service with several bus routes, or...... Have a great evening. I will gather the info and see what I can do to get this dilemma solved. Thanks for your help |

I think this would be an ideal location for Waymo to setup, I had actually contacted them years ago but never heard back, they have been expanding lately maybe they would give the area another look.

I looked at the other thread and there was some conversation about Uber/Lyft and one said they would not pick up patients (or something like that). That is not a correct statement and unless something changed I would not rely on others experience as it may have changed. As far as release to a driver after a procedure that is a conversation with your doctor before hand. I am not sure what county your in but Lake and Sumter appear to have transportation options. You certainly would want to do your homework before hand and some internet searches for other ideas.
Lastly, TV might not be the best home option for you (or all of us for that matter at some point) and you may need to consider a community that is built around these types of accommodations. https://www. https://www.lakecountyfl.gov/transit Transit Passenger Guide | Sumter County, FL - Official Website

Many neighborhoods provide volunteer efforts -- coordinated through a local Village effort of Caring Neighbors. Note that volunteers can only service the neighborhood in which they are residents. It is not all encompassing to the entire Villages.

Have always thought that if the time came we both could not drive this is not the place for us.

I looked at a web site of an assisted living facility in the villages and they have transportation services. Seems like assisted living would be a good solution for someone who can no longer drive.

Caring Neighbors is a non-profit organization of volunteers who take clients such as yourself to appointments you mentioned. Free of charge. Find out if there is a Caring Neighbors group in your Village at thevillagescaringneighbors

If you are financially comfortable to afford it. Some of the ALF are nicer then 5 star hotels.

There are many reasons that a person cannot drive and assisted living is not the answer. Would love to see a service in The Villages. Uber and Lyft are most often not available and can be very costly.

It is one thing to ask people for a ride to a doctors office but to get to clubs and restaurants that would be harder |

Just for fun, I tried to contact Waymo again, and unless you are on a social media site they do not have a suitable "contact us" email and I never saw a phone number. I found one for the website, and asked them to look into the villages, who knows if this will get to a suitable person. I am not on any social websites, so for those of you that are, try contacting Waymo there and suggest they look at the villages for their service.

I was watching a video not long ago about 10 reasons NOT to move to TV,
and the lack of public transportation was one main concern. And to add to another reason was poor health care within TV that call for traveling to doctors/specialist outside TV. requiring public transportation. |
