Any recommendations on how to get TV to maintain unoccupied (unsold) homes? The 5-6 month old house next to ours is infested with black widow spiders - at least from looking at the lanai/front door areas. Asked realtors at their (now rare) open houses to address it…. Or is this better addressed at the county extension service?

Since there are so many egg sacs appearing ready to hatch - I went directly to the sales office (as it is open on the weekend). Showed an agent a photo, confirming the hazard. She contacted a Closing office leadership person.
This is what I learned: If it was a privately owned home, can call the corresponding District office as it might be a deed violation. Since it is an empty TV spec home, the Closing office elevated the concern and we received a call (same day) confirming they have contacted the builder - who will take care of it. Hope this info helps others. Last edited by Bemabound2; 09-21-2025 at 03:02 PM. Reason: Updated info |

I don’t think I would trespass on someone’s property just to kill something that you perceive as an issue that you really did not say how it was impacting YOUR home. I spray all my windows, doors and perimeter with the home defense stuff you can buy at any Lowes or Home Depot. It has worked well at keeping the spiders that we used to often out see once we first moved in. BTW, we have a family of anoles that have been helping out with the defense.

I’m lucky hardly any insects including spiders around my house. When I do see few in house I bug bomb. Guess they are keeping well hidden from anoles which I have quite few on my crackerjack corner lot and they are doing excellent job. I was out other day moving one of pepper plant pots and medium size bug ran out from under pot. An anole jumped down and grabbed big mouth full of bug and ran off. That why I don’t bother them around my lot. They’re on guard during day, then geckos take over on night shift. I leave my out side light on for them to scoop up bugs that attracted to light .

Halloween is coming!
So don't fall asleep with all those spiders next door. As you know, they grow to gigantic size and will whisk you away. Have you read Stephen King's IT. All of what happened there is verifiable fact! |
