Default Tire Choice - A Good Experience

I helped a friend with a very ill teenager by bringing her car with a nail in a tire, to the Tire Choice on Wedgewood Lane (near Walmart) in the Villages.
In the process of fixing the tire a luge nut broke. This is really not the fault of the mechanic but Otto and Kevin the managers on duty replaced the broken part free of charge. They were interested in getting the car back to my friend as soon as possible. I felt I owned them a positive review here in the TOTV.

What did they charge for their work? How much does a lug nut cost?

Lug nuts don't break unless a nut splitter is utilized. Sounds like BS to me.

I was mechanic for 45 years, IMO nuts only fail from corrosion/stripping from over torqued, then they round off or the stud or bolt breaks in the nut. When the last time you seen lug nut corroded enough to fail? Now maybe the stud broke off from the previous installer over torquing and TC replaced the stud and nut, I could see that happening?

I agree also, I would think the stud would break first. IMO now it might of rounded off from the impact gun banging on it or the gun was accidentally in the wrong direction pounding it on tighter then rounding it? IMO the only reason the nut supposedly failed was from banged on too tight with impact gun. Lugs nuts are supposed to be torqued to 95 foot pounds or less to prevent damage to rotors or associated parts. How many times do you see torque wrenches out in tire shop?

Some will say the impact guns have torque settings? If they do when was the last time they were calibrated IMO when they were new? After thousands of use I doubt they are accurate which is why they are checked by PME to prevent over torquing or under.

Word to the wise avoid Tire Choice, even if its the last shop within 20 miles--go any where else--you'll be ahead of the game

Go online a research them--Rip-Offs are US

There are several Threads and posts on Tire Choice. Many of the posts are negative due to "up selling" by the staff of Tire Choice. It's seems this is a pattern of similar stores.

At least it's good to hear something postive.

Sounds good to me the way they handled it.

Aye, if they were really trying to rip you off, they'd have charged for the lug nut replacement. I prefer to give folks the benefit of the doubt with regard to their motivations. Ok, so maybe they caused it (and maybe not) but they made good on it, so that counts for something in my book.

Nice to hear a good review. My hubby always goes to Tire Choice. We have never had any problems at all with them.
Hubby was a mechanic many moons ago.

If they only plugged the tire why did they even have to touch lug nut? What else did they sell you. They are not to be trusted.

They did plug a golf cart tire for me for free, but also wanted to charge a boat load of money for tires for my compact. I went to Wildwood Tire and saved $ 500. I just do not trust them, but I'm glad someone didn't get hosed there.

I had them tell me they couldn't repair my tire because the nail was to close to the side. They wanted me to buy a tire, $187 with installation, stem, balance, tax, etc. I said let me think about it. I drove the 1/4 mile over to Walmart. I waited about 30 minutes and they fixed the tire for $10 and it's still going strong 15,000 miles later.
