Default Airport travel

Not knowing the area very well, is there road construction/detours when traveling from The Villages to Orlando International Airport going on right now? Thanks for the info.

Check the Florida Department of Transportation website. They have construction and project info. AAA can help you if you are a member.

Was there last week. The only construction we saw was on 528 where they are removing the toll booths right before the exit to the airport. Went in the afternoon and there was no traffic backup. There is no longer a toll there (they charge you more at the toll before that!) and it will definitely make traffic move more smoothly through that area.

If you've been reading the Daily Sun newspaper, you have obviously seen the many articles on the closure of the turnpike between The Villages and Orlando. I suggest you look there first. That is probably the biggest problem on the route.

The construction that closed the turnpike happened several weeks ago and is finished. There is construction in that area, but no road closures. We travel the turnpike/528 route quite often and there is a construction zone on 528 between the turnpike and the airport, but it doesn't really affect traffic. As noted above, they are removing the toll booths at the airport exit from 528, but that isn't causing any delays.

Ditto. We were on that route four times last week. We encountered no delays. Also, the closures are at night.

In the Sun Newspaper the last couple of weeks they've mentioned construction going on about 4 miles east of the Wildwood US301 Exit, this pertains to CR 468 being developed as a new Turnpike exit that will connect to Morse Blvd. Last week there was some closures from 9pm to 5am while they install new beams overhead the turnpike. This week it appears you'll be Okay since the construction is taking place only on CR 468 as they widen the road leading up to the Florida Turnpike.

COUNTY ROAD 468 WIDENING

No planned lane closures.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project widens CR 468 from two to four lanes over Florida’s Turnpike in Sumter County. It is located approximately five miles north of the CR 470 interchange and approximately four miles south of the US 301 interchange. The existing CR 468 is a two-lane urban collector road from US 301 to CR 501 and a two-lane rural major collector road from CR 501 to SR 44.

See Google Map, Morse Blvd will continue all the way to the Turnpike.
