We've never used this software! I decided to call their number and it was an auto transfer to advise me that all operators were busy and put me on hold for 10 minutes and then got a recorded "Good-bye". Crap like this is so annoying!!!

Never respond to anything that doesn’t even have your name on it. That is the first red flag.

Welcome to the computer age. Old school perhaps, we do not do on line banking. So any on line bill is a scam. Regular suggestions from companies go paperless. Hum, so they want me to use my printer and my paper to save them money.

Yes somehow they think we are dumb enough to pay for the paper we use to print their bills. Some at least take off a buck or so when you do this but most allow you to pay the same price.

No, it's part of the scam. This scam only works if they get you to call their number. $150 may be about right and might not catch someone's eye. However, if you think you are about to be charged $450 then you are more likely to call to get it straightened out. Once you call them they know they have you and can start getting information from you.

The funny thing is being put on hold and hung up on - the scammers aren't going to get much with that technique.

Never, never, ever call the phone number on these scams. Once we did and they locked our computer.

OP, I would suggest that you check your phone bill for a possible toll charge. The area code 833 appears to be a toll free number. But, the FTC says you should never call any of the following area codes:

268 area code – Antigua and Barbuda
284 area code – British Virgin Islands
473 area code – Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique
664 area code – Montserrat
649 area code – Turks and Caicos Islands
767 area code – Commonwealth of Dominica
809, 829, 849 area codes – Dominican Republic
876 area code – Jamaica

Calling these numbers can result in a high toll charge on your bill, and your provider cannot remove the charge because of international agreements. I would never return a call from a scammer.

My daughters mother in law had actually just purchased Norton anti virus for her computer.

About a week later she gets this same thing (think it was a pop-up) Only difference was that it said she had 'overpaid', and they wanted to issue a partial refund. So she gave all the bank info, and they cleaned them out. Business accounts, savings and so on.

Best to toss in trash, or if on line, mark sender as SPAM and move on.

So, you have to look carefully. . .

Norton Service telephone number as posted on their web site
1-855-966-7866

Email number
1 (833) 328 0756

Lots of similar looking numbers, but always check the vendor number prior to calling.
Google unknown numbers and vendors numbers prior to calling any number if you are confused.

There is no need to return any calls or emails from a vendor you don't recognize. .

Almost every poster here recommends the same response to these emails/calls

Why do people still not believe posters with experience over random emails from unknown sources?
Please think about your personal reasons for your choices versus posters with experiences.

I think Norton itself is a scam. When they merged with LifeLock, I cancelled my subscription. I use the Windows 10 built in virus protection and it seems to work fine.

But, Norton also claims to protect tablets and smart phones from viruses. I have never had a virus on a tablet or phone. A few times my browser has locked up, but it always corrects itself when you reboot the tablet.
