Default TOTV DownTime

As you may have noticed, Talk of The Villages has been off-line a couple of times over the past week. The problem, it appears is a good/bad one.

Although I don't know all the ins and outs yet, it seems that we are being overloaded at certain times. We are over 14,000 members and growing about 25 a day. Typically there are about 300 people viewing the site at all times.

I'm not sure at this point what we have to do, but one of the options facing us is purchasing much larger server space. I think you all know what that means for us (the administrators).

So, we're hoping to resolve the issues without an enormous expense. Whatever we have to do, we'll do it.

I do know that if I was a business severing The Villages, I sure would want my ad on Talk of The Villages.

Thank heavens it wasn't me. I thought I had worn out the link between my computer and TOTV.

It is wonderful to be so popular as a site TH.

I do hope that we all can help by telling the people who buy advertising how great a site this is and how many people view it.

I hope it gets resolved appropriately and soon. My wife was in the corner, shaking like a leaf when she couldn't log on the other day. She had me checking the modem, the network, and her computer(s) to find out what was wrong.

This just seems to happen every once in a while. I hope they do not decide to do another major overhaul on TOTV. Hard to get used to a whole different way of doing things like with the last big modification.

I sure had to log back on a lot of times over the last couple of days.

This will be one of my main places to advertise my business when we move there in about 3 years. Good luck with the upgrade !

One night DH said he almost signed on to ask TOTVers to locate me on a thread and tell me it was time to go to bed!

Maybe the reason my computer stops responding when on this site.

My hope is that advertising will increase so the costly upgrade can be accomplished, This site provides a valuable service and it is very entertaining.

I need my fix every day. It has become part of my life.

Best wishes.

Default Time out

TH

I don't know if this a big issue but I know I am guilty on occasion.

I'm logged in to TOTV and get a phone call, or decide to go get the mail, etc. etc.

I don't log out. On a lot of sites where I do that I have to log back on after a predetermined amount of "no activity" time. Perhaps if TOTV had a similar system it would save some server horsepower.

The IT people are talking to me in a foreign language. There is some kind of automatic operation in the background that is gobbling up our resources. But only occasionally. Problem is we don't have that automatic operation in the background.

I have never seen so many abbreviations and acronyms in my life as these computer heads use.

They they talk to you like you're some kind of stupido because you don't have a frigging clue what they are talking about.
