IMHO, you will need to repair more than the popcorn ceiling. I am guessing you will need to replace a section of the ceiling with new drywall, you may need to replace the insulation and when all of this is done, match the popcorn ceiling finish. I am sorry I do not have any suggestions for the popcorn ceiling repair. There are several companies that can repair the ceiling, but I would make sure the original drywall is sound or replaced.

An additional thought, do a search on drywall repair, I know there is a lady that comes highly recommended, and I cannot remember her name.

I am guessing if this is the attic then the only attic space is above the garage so only drywall unless insulation was added at some point? If in the garage and the looks are not critical you might try to match the paint and if that does not work a more lengthy repair might be in order like a drywall section replace and repair?
