You mean as YOU wish it to be which is fine but that is only YOUR opinion based on YOUR beliefs. TV news stations are the same. Other newspapers are the same. That’s why God invented intelligence, so we can decide for ourselves what we believe in or what is right (2 different things) or not. Like TV news stations, if you don't like their news you go to the one you like that tells you what YOU want to hear.

I think your comment makes sense. It has caused me to think more deeply about my comment. While I've never heard anyone voice it, I am sure there is a comfort level, conscious or unconscious, associated with being in an environment where one is surrounded largely by one's own ethnic group.
I think it would be fair to say that if I'd found a place with the same weather and amenities as TV, but where I would be in a 2% minority ethnically, I probably would have kept looking.
I don't think that makes us bad people, or TV a bad place, but it does make us an easy target for someone looking for an easy target, with an axe to grind.

Very well said.

Or just an easy target for someone stating the obvious.

i agree with you. The decline in awards shows ratings during covid should prove to any doubters that the majority of americans are not going to allow the media talking heads to mind control them. Sometimes you cant see a grove for the oranges

It seems to me that many folks I meet in The Villages from "up north" are above all weather refugees. That is what primarily drove them to move here, whether (pun intended) as snowbirds or frogs. Now I realize many have moved here from other parts of Florida for other reasons although hurricane (weather) issues may have played a part in their relocation to TV. As a wonderful bonus most everybody feels safe here, much safer than in almost any major metropolitan area. One can walk around their neighborhood any time, day or night, and not fear getting mugged (or worse). Additionally the cost of living here is quite modest compared to populous east and west coast states. I find it easy to connect with people I meet here. Most are open, friendly, helpful nice folks. They are honest, prudent, hard working and have earned a serene retirement.

Closed down. Wonder what that means
it might not be the political slant, it might be the degree of nastiness in the way it was presented.

For one thing, articles made up of glowing positives do NOT generate interest--or hits, for that matter. "If it bleeds, it leads", as they say. An article about a town rife with boozing and sex is gonna generate one hell of a lot more interest than one about church socials and raising money for orphans. Human nature. Why else do salacious fish-wrappers like the National Enquirer hang around for decades while publications containing thoughtful articles come and go?

I'm no fan of the Times. Many reasons. But one thing beyond contestation is the fact that the Times employs the best wordsmiths around. You don't have to agree with what they say to recognize the excellence in how they say it.

I just want the news without an opinion. Just the facts!

None of the cable news stations are going to give you anything other than opinions, they are all talking heads. Some conservative, some liberal, all talking heads. If you want news you have to listen to BBC or a couple of other foreign stations.

Granted it was only 7 days. But we did talk to lots of people young and old. Never once did politics enter a conversation.

We're 65 and 66 and are registered republicans here in Indiana, simply because you can only register as a rep or a dem.. But we consider ourselves independents and would register that way if we could. I think the TV will continue to be a great place, but it will moderate over time as the older baby boomers attrition out.
We like newer music, running, mountain biking and staying fit and acitve. We aren't stuck in the past. I like to spend my time looking out the windshield and not the rearview mirror.
I do admit, more diversity in TV would be nice, but it needs to happen organically.

Every community has it's warts. You just have to find what fits you the best. We're looking forward to spending winters there. But if at some point we feel it's not for us, we'll sell our house and move. Life is full of choices.
Just a minor correction: You don't have to register as only Democrat or Republican in Indiana. That requirement only applies to the primaries. If you want to vote in the Democrat primary you have to be affiliated as a Democrat. Vice versa for Republican. That's the same in Florida. Someone whose registration declares them as a Democrat may not vote in the Republican primary. And, if you want to vote in one of the primaries, you must declare as registered to that party. If you refuse to declare, you can't vote for any candidates the primary. But you can still vote on any "questions" in the primary, and you can still vote in the general elections.

You can't even guarantee that you'd have "just the facts" for something you witness first-hand. What makes you think you'd know the facts if presented to you by someone else?
