Screen Door for front door
Has anyone installed a screen door at their front door? Who installed it. Are you pleased? Any pics?
Can you still use a door decoration--wreath etc?

screen/storm door
Yes, I bought a storm door at Lowe's. It had a retractable screen - I loved it.
Lowe's came out and measured, when the door was ready, they installed it. This was done on a CYV home. Betty

Is that a type of door or a place that installed it?

Michaels
Micheal's Hide Away is the company name. It's a retractable Hideaway Screen that mounts on the outside door jamp and retracts into a storage tube on the jamb. 352-236-8869

I also used Lowe's and was delighted. This is a complete screen-storm door and no, you can't put nails in it to hang things - you'd have to find some other way.
Several months later something went wrong with the screen retractor and they came next day and fixed it. |

Screen Door
I purchased a retractable door at Loews also, installed it myself(If your at all handy not a big job).It has been awhile but as I recall it was around $135.00.There are less expensive models available but I tried that and it didn't work out.Go with the best and you'll only buy it once.

Screen door
We purchased a Hideaway Retractable which we like. However we found that the screen is not tucked into the frame at the bottom. This creates a problem for not getting a solid barrier when the wind blows up against it causing a gap at the bottom..

I'm with Opulunce, we bought one at Lowe's for about $300, had them install it. Love it, it's a better storm/screen door than we ever had up north. LOVE the retractable screen.

I live in a CYV. Do I need to get approval before installing a screen door? I will probably install it myself.

We're having Micheles Hideaway coming out on May 2nd to install our rollaway on the front door. We have a CYV and we were told as long as it is white or matches the color of your front door and frame you don't need any permit. We have 2 rollaways on our current home here in Arizona for the last 9 years and they still work great! We will get the motorized garage screen door in the near future.

Everyone on our cul-de-sac got the retractable screens at Lowes (had them install them) Love it! Open the front door & lanai and you have a breeze that flows right thru.

half screen
we have the Andersen storm door - got at Home Depot, think Lowe's carries them too. Had Home Depot install but they did it our last day on a trip here, installer was still working on it when we had to take guests somewhere, came home and found he didn't finish (still don't know why), maybe missing a part? Said it was his first one (oh, goody). Had to have them return because it didn't open far enough.
The top part rolls up and down/screen or glass (probably not glass, probably acrylic). Love it. Creates a nice cross breeze. also feels more secure when you are on the lanai or backyard and want to leave the door open for the breeze, can just lock it. I think someone could just stick their hand thru the other one. If you have a dog, I would not advise the whole door retractable - one of our neighbors has to use a baby gate or her dog will go thru. Another neighbor finally took it off, dog kept going thru. |

My dog ran into ours only once, maybe the noise when it whacked shut scared him because now he stops and waits for me to go thru first. (I did get the locks put on mine, one on top and one on bottom)
