My wife is really enjoying our first visit. Since I haven't been able to drive, she's had great fun with the golf cart. She is an artist and has found several really pretty places along cart trails with benches where she'd like to stop and do some sketching. She wonders if it's OK to pull her golf cart onto the grass to park so it would be out of the way. Anyone know the rules for this?

Dave... Glad to hear you are enjoying your stay so far.

There are no rules about pulling over on the grass. Just use common sense and have the cart fully off the paved path and enjoy the scenery. Good for her! Hope your eye/vision issues are improving.

Thanks for the info and the good wishes. I got prisms for my glasses, and can see some with them, and NO double vision when I wear them. May be a hassle for months to come, but it should get well by itself.

Old Dave, Thank you for posting this question. I have wondered about that myself. Last year when I rented and I drove a golf cart for the first time, I pulled over onto the grass several times to check out the golf cart trail map. Usually it was just for a few minutes, but one time I chatted with a helpful TV resident who stopped to give me directions for probably 20 minutes before we moved on. We were both totally pulled off onto the grass so we weren't blocking the trail at all.

Much better to park completely off of the pavement for a while. Many seem to "think" that one wheel on the grass constitutes pulling off, while in reality they are blocking one side of the path.

Tell you wife too that there are groups here that do their art En Plein Air....

There are all kinds of groups here that do art...in classes at the LifeLong Learning College and in rec centers, There are WONDERFUL instructors and only one person who teaches who has a really nasty attitude. Your wife can PM me for that info. I bet plenty know who it is. lol.

A lot of accomplished artists take classes on different art materials and everyone brings so much creativity to the room. WHAT FUN!

Nan Klein taught me to do color pencil portraits. She is a phenomenal teacher. I could always draw but now I feel so empowered.

There are so many wonderful things for artists here.

Thanks so much Gracie. I will pass that on, although I think she already has two or three groups like that on her schedule. She is actually an art teacher and has been for 40 years. Although as an elementary art teacher most of that time she hasn't been able to do much of what she enjoys most, which is pencil and pen and ink. She is incredibly talented, especially in really small details. Hard as it may be to believe, there really isn't that much of interest to draw in Kansas, lol.

Just an observation ... if your wife is pulling off by a pond, which I would think would make a beautiful setting for an artist, make sure she doesn't face the cart down an enbankment towards the pond. We see this being done all the time at Sunset Point and wonder why for safety reasons, wouldn't they face the cart horizontal to the ponds edge. Just a suggestion.

Dave; I believe there is a small fee for parking on the grass and all parking on the streets.
The signs are small and with your new glasses well you might just not even see them at all.
