Has anyone ever caught fish in any of the lakes or seen anyone catching fish. Are they really stocked? I'm trying to find out if its worth fishing them

They are all catch and release. I see folks pull them in all the time. You must not take the with you.

Nice link. Are the lakes stocked with bass and sunfish?

My husband and I were talking about this today. One of his great passions is fishing. He currently has a boat but we won't be bringing we we move to TV and he is afraid that he will have to give up fishing. I'm hoping that there are other fisherman in TV.

Elizabeth, there is plenty of paces to fish. Lake Panasoffee in Sumter County, Lake Harris in Lake County. I think there is even a fishing club in The Villages.

Thanks for the info. He loves all types of fishing, fly fishing, freshwater and salt water. I know it's hard giving up his favorite spots, but I think it will be fun discovering new ones.

Perhaps he would want to send a PM to F16, who lives in TV and is an avid fisherman. Or so I hear, perhaps it's just a fish story.

One of my poker buddies is big into freshwater fishing - even in The Villages.
Last year, just a couple of days before Christmas, he caught a bass that was just a few ounces short of 10 pounds in Lake Mira Mar. I went with a person to a pond in Lady Lake when he told me that he catches bass frequently over 5 pounds. I saw two alligators near the shore and suddenly the urge to fish was over! |

There are tons of large lakes very near TV as well as the smaller ones within.

We just sold our boat along with the towing vehicle......it would have been too big for those lakes........and storage would have been an issue. Hubby would take it up to Lake Champlain........ The Villages does have a "Deep Sea Fishing Club"......if he'd like to fish in the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico....... |

Here's what you need to do - The Freshwater Fishing Club meets the 2nd Tue of each month from Sep thru May at 7 PM at Lake Miona Rec Ctr. We have monthly speakers to include Fish & Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers, Biologists, Guides, Tournament Anglers, Marina Owners, Tackle Shop Owners, Reel Repair.....
There are plenty of places to fish via golf cart in TV. Come to a meeting early and ask for Randy. He's the pond "expert". If it's a freshwater fish, the ponds in TV probably have them. NO musky, walleye, northern pike....And YES many ponds are stocked but don't let that fool you. The ponds that haven't been stocked may be even better because they may have been here long before TV. All are catch, photograph, and release. (CPR) There are several members that have boats & fish outside TV. There's more than enough lakes within a 50 mile radius. Chain of lakes are connected bodies of water that consist of several lakes accessed by canals - Harris, Clermont, Butler, Tsala Apoka Chains ...Lakes Miona, Weir, Panasoffkee, Orange, Lochloosa just to name a few. With recent rains FINALLY the lakes are filling allowing access to many areas. Bass tournaments exist everywhere and are posted at Brooker Bait & Tackle in Leesburg or Sandys Bait & Tackle in Tavares. Both shops have everything an angler needs & if not they'll get it. Even the Freshwater Fishing Club hosts a bass tournament in TV. Access is by golf cart and you fish from the bank. Ponds are pre-determined with a mandatory entree fee. Fish are weighed, verified by judges, documented, & immediately released. It's always been fun & open to VILLAGE RESIDENTS ONLY. We not only bass fish but also pan fish for Specks, Brim, Shell Crackers. The Freshwater Fishing Club President, Jerry Echols, knows all about what tackle you need and what lakes to fish. And yes there's even some HUGE pan fish in TV ponds. There's also monthly group fishing excursions to different lakes that's set up by Steve Felix who schedules these outings with different marinas getting us discounted rates. These are particularly nice for non-boat owners. Come early to a Freshwater Fishing Club meeting and find out "who's catchin em"...."how big"...."on what".... Also have an open mind or wear hip boots....don't ask. Next meeting Sep 10....Doors open around 6:15 PM with meeting starting at 7 PM. Look for me - I'll be the old guy. freshwaterfishingclub.com Annual Membership $5 Steve Last edited by F16 1UB; 07-27-2013 at 09:37 AM. |
