We've checked all our food and none have shown up. Thankfully I keep sugar, flour etc in locked mason jars anyway. I will notify Purina. I know it can happen but it just got me so mad that Petco knew there was a problem and continues to sell it and infesting people's homes and animals.

this can be a common problem; just put the dog food in your freezer and the larvae will die. eating the larva or insects will not harm your pets. do not blame petco. larval contamination is common.

They (unbiased reviewers of dog food) list all Purina pro plan food as a 1 star out of a possible 6 stars and give you the reasons why. It's very possible your breeder gets a kickback to recommend the Purina brand and they are a big multi national corporation (Nestle) so they can afford to do so.

Do you want to feed your dog "The main meat ingredient in this food is in fact poultry by-product meal. It is impossible to ascertain the quality of by-products and these are usually products that are of such low quality as to be rejected for use in the human food chain, or else are those parts that have so little value that they cannot be used elsewhere in either the human or pet food industries." ??

"The AAFCO definition of poultry by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered poultry, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.” Unable to be identified even by species or source, it is a very low quality ingredient."

Corn gluten meal, "animal" fat and "poultry" by product, not good for dogs.

Look on the site for some good human grade foods like orijen, evo, TOTW etc.

Even Earthborn Holistic brand is 3 star. Both Earthborne and Orijen are available at Sparrs near brownwood.

Sorry, but if it says Purina, I will not feed it to my dog. Just my opinion.

It's a good thing to go on an independent site for a review of dog food ingredients. (Not the Blue Buffalo site).

A few years ago, we reviewed all the dogfoods, and decided that Orijen and Taste of the Wild were the best dogfoods. (Arcana is manufactured by Orijen). However the information probably changes every few years as new products are introduced. We should probably take another look.

We got moths from buying bird seed loose from our bird's breeder's store. Now I freeze all seed for a couple of days before opening it. If you see any stringy-type things in your pet food, it's probably the moth larvae.

I agree Purina is not the best food to feed. Lots of fillers that pass through without providing nutrition. Check this out. Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor

I feed my dogs Blue Buffalo dog food and store it in an air-tight container called Vittles Vault. I also use the human version of Vittles Vault for my breakfast cereal. No pest problems.
