Just received a bill from Duke for $284 for my 1094 Sf villa. I have all new windows and doors and never set th temp below 75 at night and 77 daytime.

I would like to know what others are paying. I appreciate any replies.

I cannot help you with a Duke bill, but you might want to add in the Kwh that you used over this period, our house is over twice the size and on SECO, with a hot tub and additional AC of the newly enclosed lanai and we have not passed $250 yet.

I have about the same size house, and my bill with Leesburg Electric was $120. But my thermostat is set at 79 day and night. Your temperature setting is a little low, but I'm not sure it would cause that much of a difference.

Is this a new house? If not, what have you been paying the last 17 years? Is this bill an aberration?

I have a Courtyard Villa (about 1400 square feet) and I usually keep it about 80 degrees. (I didn't have air conditioning growing up so 80 degrees is comfortable). In July and August, I am paying about about $150 a month. Almost always under $100 in the winter.

I have Duke. I have a 3 bed 2 bath courtyard villa 1500 square feet. My bill this month was 169 and I keep my thermostat on 73 during the day and 72 at night. I don’t have a pool. I bought mine new in 2021 but yours seems incredibly high regardless of the age. You should get it serviced.

What was bill before new doors and windows, how old is you’re house and air handler, how well is house insulated (attic also)? All questions that has to be studied. As other said how many watts using and what cost Per watts. If you want real comparison with like year built house. I’m on SECO so can’t help. With older house and system 75 at night and 77 during day the A/c going to be running majority of time. I can’t sleep with house too cool my lungs and throat congests up. My elect bill runs around $128 and down to around 70 in winter months with SECO in CYV 1100 sq ft, 23 years old house with thermostat set at 78 in summer and 71 in winter.

My CYV about 1500 sq ft, built in 2019, provider SECO. Set at 78 during the day , 76 at night, highest bills $165.

CYV 1650 sqft. SECO. Pool, Koi pond, 80 when we’re out and about, 79 when home. Bill for 31 days $183.00

Very happy with SECO, Designer home never over 165. Even with visitors 74 day 73 night cooling.

Same size house, SECO district, AC set at 74 all the time. My most recent bill (covering August) was $175, but the month before that was $225 (covering July) my highest in this house. We’ve had a very hot summer, and in July there were a number of days when my AC couldn’t get the temp below 76° or 77° for a number of hours when the sun was shining full on the sliding glass door that faces west.

Also, I’m not sure the meter reader goes by at the same day every month. If there is 34 days in one reading and 27 in the next month, the electricity was used, but it skews the monthly costs.

Much of the year, my costs are around $100.

Thats crazy high. My home is almost 3 times as large (2997 sq feet) with a pool. We keep it at 75 and is always around $300 a month with SECO.

OP, there are a few easy things you can check. On a hot and humid day, go to the outside unit and feel the pipe that connects to the unit (the one with the black insulation). When the unit is running, the pipe should be cold and wet. Also, get a duct thermometer and check the temperature at each supply register in the ceiling. You should feel an air flow and the temperature should be about 60 degrees or less. If one of the registers is different, it could indicate that the duct is disconnected or clogged in the attic. Also, have you changed the filter recently?

2000 sq ft Designer home, Duke power, 78 day/76 night, last month $203. Did you get you home inspection and did it include the ceiling area. Sounds like you have a bunch of missing insulation. Check with Duke, they do a FREE home energy audit: Schedule an Energy Visit - Duke Energy

While I agree that the HVAC probably has the majority of the consumption, what other electric appliances do you have? Hot water heater, dryer, range? These can also play into your consumption.

You may also want to make sure your neighbor doesn't have an extension cord run to your house to power his grow house...
