I second the recommendation for Dr. Shannon Floyd.

I feely admit I am a difficult patient. Too many doctors have sadly lost their humanity. Perhaps, from dealing with sick people.

I am please to recommend Dr Alexander Sterling LAKESIDE FOOT AND ANKLE.
1330 Citizens Blvd
352 728 1252
He is not just a podiatrist but a podiatric surgeon. Re; Lost humanity his staff is also great. Too many doctors higher people with no training at all to be the initial customer contact. It sets the tone of the entire office. They are hired by the doctor or office manager. It is a tough job to do well. People who can do it well are scarce.

What do you consider to be the difference?

From the way my friend explained it, some just want to just "chip and clip" and don't want to cut you up. Some just want to cut off that bunion before you even remove your socks. One of my friends is a podiatrist and he won't do major surgeries like that beyond basics (removing a nail kind of thing). He doesn't advertise as a Podiatric Surgeon although he is affiliated with a local hospital, just a Podiatrist although I guess he technically can be call one. I definitely wouldn't go to him for "major" foot surgery as that isn't his specialty. He does pretty well just "chipping and clipping" the old folks in his area.

You're discussing "palliative care" vs "surgical intervention"...

Any podiatrist in the state is licensed to do both. Just because one calls him/herself a "podiatric surgeon" means nothing.

Board Certification" in foot or foot & ankle surgery does...

I'm Board Certified, yet I still call myself a "Podiatrist" when asked what I do...

Now, in my waning years in practice, I have chosen to do less surgery, as I get closer to retirement. But that's a personal decision...

Credentials matter. Not a name...
