Semi annual tune ups. ? Why would you need a tune up on a new A/C? Or for that matter any A/C that is working/cooling properly why fix something that is not broken?

There are all model Tranes, some Tranes have proprietory parts that are unique to Trane, also IMHO if you have the big 4" x20 x20 filters once a year check up is all thats need

To have the manufactures warranty that covers parts but not labor I was told you have to have the tune ups

An annual maintenance checkup may be a requirement for maintaining a warranty.

Evaporator coil leaks are, unfortunately, pretty common.

Replace the coil- any real tradesman should be able to silver solder the replacement

We had a lot of estimates and went with DeSantis in Wildwood. Very pleased.

An interesting read re: Trane vs american standard
Quote:
Magic touch does a great presentation with a bit of fact spinning. He says he USED TO BE, a Traine comfort specialist. There is some reason-not stated-why he is not now. Not accusing. Not based on knowledge but based on my experience in a totally other industry-did he meet the required volume? Did he send his people for the required by the company training? Did he pay his bills on time? He mentioned volume pricing. This is an often used tactic. Is the volume reasonable and adjusted by territory? Re: marketing funds. We used to call that PM funds. Promotional marketing funds. In my previous industry it was use it or loose it. To not use it was STUPID. You could spend that money on almost anything company approved. If, you did not have enough to buy a news [paper or radio ad you could purchase pens with your name and the company name on it. He did say Traine and American Standard are the same-I HAVE NO WAY TO SAY THAT IS TRUE. He does say that Traine cost him slightly less-AGAIN I HAVE NO WAY TO CONFIRM THAT but, at least in my former industry and I'm sure many others the real true cost is not what is shown on the invoice. Have you ever gone to buy a car and the salesman says he will sell you the car at only $150 or $200 over dealer cost and you go. or think it is a great deal? If, you want to see him loose lunch ASK ABOUT THE CALL BACK. They get roughly 6% back from the car company when the car is sold. Assuming you are buying a lower cost car it is still 22,000 6% of 22,000 is $1320 plus the $200 he told you is $1520 profit. |

But then after some time Ingersoll Rand improved the operation of the Trane warehouse in AZ and he switched back to being a Trane dealer and is one now (or at least at the time he wrote this paper). |

This is a gossip line
Quote:
Remember you run your AC or for most of us it is a heat pump all year long. Expected life is about ten years. You will see posts I had a ...... and it lasted 15 years. It is a slow death. It no longer works as well as it did and it uses more and more electricity We have a carrier, now four years old. They try to SELL you a biannual service. Once a year is all you need for the warranty. IF, you have the same system as we do, you are supposed to change the filters twice a year. The filters are fairly expensive but you can buy the originals on line for 1/2 to 1/3 less than from the service company. RE: LENNOX My friend in boynton beach bought a Lennox about two years ago and he was thrilled at his electric savings. ??? I think he said it was 18 s.e.e r. Not confirmed guesses. At the time his home was built the minimum the builders could put in was 6 seer so I assume that is what he had. If, you look on the unit you have you will see the seer rating is marked. Our carrier is 15 seer. To his LENNOX. His unit died two days before erma hit. His repair tec did a diagnosis and said he needed a part. The nearest one was in Atlanta. I took them 10 days to get the part and have it installed. TEN DAYS WITH NO AC AND IT IS HOTTER IN BOYNTON BEACH THEN HERE. |

If you have the 4" media filter then changing once a year is fine (unless you have some unusual situation in your home). Remember that the filters actually filter better as they become loaded (up to a point, obviously) and the ECM motors in the air handlers are programmed to deliver the same CFM as the filter becomes more loaded. In a previous home, the system monitored the 4" media filter loading via changes in the status pressure (you can do that with ECM motors) and reported back when it needed to be changed. The frequency was typically over a year for a larger home than we have here (in the southeast so the same usage pattern). Mine is still pretty clean after a year.

I just had a new unit put in my villa. I went with Chuck Farrell after getting three estimates. He was honest, did a great job and came in the lowest.

Tuneup = checking the coolant level, blowing out or cleaning coils, and replacing the filter.
