Noticed in the 'other' newspaper that 2 non-villagers used the bathrooms at Colony Neighborhood Pool and stole money, credit cards, etc. I noticed at our neighborhood pool that many contractors (lawn care, trash removal, etc.) use the bathrooms. Is that allowed? But then I thought about the alternative, i.e., where would they go? Just curious.....

I have seen service workers such as lawn crews, garbage collectors, etc use the golf course restrooms at the 7th hole on Fox Run many times. To me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Where else would you expect them to go for a bathroom need?
How would money or credit cards be stolen from bathrooms? Do some people leave wallets on the counter when using a stall? Mighty foolish if they do! |

Think the stolen items were on benches or shelves while folks took showers and got dressed. Kinda dumb, to me. To blame the lawn crews, etc. is just wrong IMO. Anyone could have gone in and stolen the items from rec staff to Villagers and their guests to workers to thieves who prey on this type of behaivor to workers.
And, yes, workers are allowed to use the pool, rec and golf course restrooms. Certainly beats the alternatives.

The Colony Neighborhood Pool does not have showers except for the one to use before entering the pool. In three years I have never seen anyone use it. The rest room is in the corner and near some tables. I would guess if this really happened the items were left on said tables. I highly doubt that anyone would leave valuables just laying out on tables near a rest room.

These two thieves were just that...thieves. Both have prior convictions for theft and who knows what else. This probably isn't the first time they have entered restrooms near pools knowing there may be valuables left unattended while people are swimming. And then to run right over to local merchants and use the stolen credit cards so quickly just shows how disgustingly savvy they are in being criminals.

A couple has been arrested after they were connected to the theft of a pair of shorts from the mens changing room at the swimming pool at Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
The shorts were taken Dec. 4 and contained a Villagers wallet which held $100 cash, his Florida drivers license, an Outback Steakhouse gift card, his Villages ID card, and three credit cards. The credit cards were later used at three local businesses the nearby Walgreens, Publix and Shell gas station, all on Colony Boulevard. Items purchased included Vodka, beer, cigarettes, razors and prepaid credit cards. Brian Mark Krajewski Brian Mark Krajewski Kelly Ann Hendrix Kelly Ann Hendrix Video surveillance and other clues led Sumter County Sheriffs Office detectives to 40-year-old Brian Mark Krajewski and 51-year-old Kelly Lynn Hendrix. They were arrested on Tuesday on charges including larceny and fraud. Both told detectives they had stopped by Colony Cottage Recreation Center to use the restroom. Hendrix was out on bond at the time the shorts were stolen. She had been accused of stealing from a 79-year-old Villager. Hendrix was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $20,000 bond. Krajewski has prior theft convictions in Lake and Osceola counties. He posted $6,000 bond and has been released.
