Default Air conditioning problem

Hi, trying to figure out how to proceed with this problem. My Homewatch person told me that my air conditioning is running & that cool, but not cold air is coming out. House temp is 93 degrees. I've already had thermostat & metal water collection pan replaced this year. Can you suggest what steps I need to take now. I have a home warranty & also think the A/C unit itself is under warranty until about October. It was installed in 2007 by Bellview Air. Chuck Farrell was out to do tune up in March, but not for this problem.

I think you answered your own question. If it's under warranty I would call them.

If they are going to charge anything.... I would call Chuck Farrell.

Has the filter been changed, is the circulating fan running?

Could a dirty filter block "cold" air but not "cool" air? If the circulating fan was not running, would any air come out?

Check the capacitor. Very inexpensive; but let Chuck evaluate.

First call the TV Home Warranty Dept. to confirm the manufacturer's warranty. If the manufacturer's warranty has expired, call your home warranty company.

You can skip these steps if you simply want to pay for everything out of pocket. In that case, call Chuck Farrell.

I think you are correct -

Thinking back a few years... had a similar problem. See if the outside unit is working. In my case it was not. It was either a "start" capacitor or a "run" capacitor that needed replacing. I think the outside unit has a start capacitor and the inside unit has a run capacitor. Chuck knew what is was and replaced with no problem.

We did too. It cost a little over a hundred bucks to replace it with labor. They said to turn off the air conditioner when we called so that it didn't freeze up.

Good points on the outside unit, I misread the post. I had the same problem, the outside unit start capacitor was blown, no charge under warranty.

Default Air conditioning problem

Back in the good ole
days capacitors contained PCB's. Really bad stuff for the environment but capacitors would last for a very long time.
I do recall energizing an IBM system 34 drive motor and it's run capacitor blew up splattering me with the aforementioned PCB's. I took a very long shower after that.
