It only makes a difference if you want to comply with the President's executive order. The order doesn't say anything about being near people.

Or if you are more than six feet from the nearest human you are not required to wear one. Seems many forgot about the social distance rule.

So your interpretation is wear a mask even if there’s no one else around. Don’t think so.

Can’t see the forest for the trees... In all of 2020 (March to December), Sumter County had lost approximately 120 to COVID. In the past 3 weeks, we’ve lost another 50. Simple math tells me it’s getting worse not better. Maybe we should just wear a mask and all try to work toward ending this pandemic.

190,621 new coronavirus cases in the US on January 21, 2020 . 188,000 7 day average. Please wear a mask . If your not worried for yourself do it for others ., if someone had the flu , would you want them to come in the post office or any other public place you were at ? Common sense is required here .

You get your mail from a federally run property this is in my opinion considered to be treated like any other Federal building and the same rules should apply. Wear your mask it is not only a requirement but a curtesy to everyone you come in contact with at the postal boxes if people haven’t learned by now that Covid is a real threat to all of us we are in bigger trouble than just worrying if the Postal buildings are under the rules of the Federal government. WEAR YOUR MASK

Ever-maskers and Never-maskers, the race to the bottom continues.
It really isn't that difficult, if you will be near someone outside your family/pod/bubble for more than a few seconds then wear a mask. If you are alone in your car or walking down a trail or grabbing your mail, then wearing a mask is helping no one. If you pass someone walking on the trail or grabbing mail and don't stop to talk then a mask is helping no one. But if you stop to talk, put the mask on; it really is that simple. The virus is contagious but it isn't like childhood cooties, you don't catch it by simply walking past someone. I've seen people step off the sidewalk and into the golf cart lane to avoid walking past me on the sidewalk - the virus is contagious and deadly but not as deadly as being hit by a car. Some people need to spend more time thinking about when masks make sense and less time demanding others wear masks from the moment they wake up.

For the little inconvenience, I would just wear a mask for the 2 minutes it takes to pick up the mail. What happens if someone beside you shows up and decides to talk with you and happens to have the virus. Very little inconvenience for a small period of time and to protect yourself.

Which may be the biggest reason it is ignored. Rules/laws/orders ought to make sense or else they will be ignored. Requiring masks in Federal buildings (or any public indoor space) makes a lot of sense. Requiring a mask to fly a kite in the middle of the National Mall or on a hike into the Grand Canyon tells me there was little thought behind the order.
