Default Power Bill

I realize that we are in the hottest months of the year and that power bills will be higher during these months than the rest but how much of an increase is normal? Is a $200 to 230 bill normal for a 2 bed;2 bath ranch or should I be concerned?

I have been here 7 years and my last bill was the highest ever. I used way more electric then usual. Looks like it will be the same this month. The winter will make up for it when electric bills will be almost nothing--well not quit nothing but low. You can get your bill averaged year round. Monthly bill changes a little once in awhile if you use more or less electric thoughout the year.

You folks need to chase down the previous information on Humidistat's or check with someone who has installed one. You will be pleasantly surprised at the difference these little "boxes" can make.

Schotzky,

We have a 2000 sq ft CBS designer and my last elec bill (we have gas for hot water, stove, and dryer) was $119. We were here the whole month and keep the A/C set at 78 degrees. Not sure if CBS vs vinyl siding makes that much of a difference in keeping the cool air in. I thought last summer was much hotter than this one.

Will be curious to hear what other ranch home owners say.

Were you here full time?

2/2 MFG Home on shaded lot, A/C on 76, 1500 sq. feet, bill was $260, probably my highest in 4 years here. previous month $200. All electric and I cook a lot, electric dryer, hot water, electric golf cart, 2 computers, etc... Lowest bill was $78. in Jan.. :dontknow: I know oil up north for heat in winter would have run us about $600- $800 per month + an electric bill!!! Look at it that way and electric seems fair.

3 bedroom ranch June $156 and July $188. Gas $28. Keep A/C at 77 or lower when we have visitors. Winter in the low $70's but gas heat makes utilities fairly high once in awhile. Don't need to use the heat very often.

Count thy blessings - $470 in a 2800 sq. ft house here in MA. Of course we keep it cool and we do run a day care business so the use is higher.
