Have you ever had packages put into your package postal box that are too large to be removed from the outside? I have written a note to the postal employees and nothing has changed. My son had to dismantle the last such box to get the purchases out and still could not remove the carton. Be nice to me, this is my first discussion post.

I believe the boxes have a lip on the outside portion but not on the inside where the boxes are loaded. They can slide in the back but the lip prevents some from coming out the front. At least that`s the way it used to be when I worked for the PO.
If the employees can`t seem to understand this a complaint should made to the Lady Lake Postmaster. |

next time write a note on the box with a pen and push it back into the postal station, or just go back the next day when the postal person is there...gn

The problem is that, once you have unlocked the door, you cannot relock it, so your package sits there exposed.

I agree with an earlier post. Stop by when they are sorting mail and explain your problem. I find our postal sorters are very friendly and willing to help. Give them a chance.......then go to the post office in Lady Lake.

What is interesting is that the OP has moved from one village to another. Never had this problem in the previous location, but happens fairly often in the new location despite speaking to the postal workers. Supposedly she has a sign on her box asking them to contact her if she gets a large package. |

I had the problem once. It took a very kind gentleman helping me to get it out. Not my idea of fun. Had I been alone, I could have never gotten it out and the contents were quite valuable. I did talk to my carrier the next day and have never had the problem since.

I had the problem but the postal worker was still there so I had her remove it from her side and hand it to me through the door. Not sure what I would have done if she had not been there.
At the least I would have had to go home and get a box cutter or something since the flat side of the box was facing me. I guess pushing it back into the postal area would have been an option.

I've read the earlier comments and still have a problem understanding why this remains to be a problem after having happened more than a time or two. Shouldn't there be some sort of "sending around a memo" to the sub-contractors that this is a problem so be aware of it when you put an unusual sized parcel in the box? My military training tells me this should be a check-list item. Am I over simplifying this? All of these gyrations and work-rounds would then be unnecessary. Perhaps there are many different size boxes, but I'd doubt that. They generally leave me a key and use the larger boxes when this could happen.

i hear ya kb8, but we are talkin about the post office here, not sure a memo is going to do anything, still can't imagine why pushing a box back through that has spent a week or more traveling through the usps system should be a problem...gn

A funny aside....one day I opened our mail box and there was a triangular box inside. Couldn't figure out what it was so I started to pull it out. I pulled and pulled and pulled. The package kept on coming....turns out it was a golf club. Reminded me of those clown cars in the circus...clowns start coming out and just keep on coming and coming.

A couple of years ago, when I had a large package, the postal person would give me a call at home to let me know there was a package that just wouldn't fit. Other times, they'd deliver it to my house. Now, I no longer get a call, but once in a while, the package is delivered. Might have to do with how it was shipped to us. There is a note on my mailbox, inside, telling them to call us for oversized packages.

Thank all of you for your responses to my large package problem at my postal station. This Talk of the Villages forum is great! I'll resolve the problem yesterday or sooner. I have torn several cardboard boxes apart to retrieve the contents, then taken the remains of the box to the rubbish barrel, but, as for pushing the pkg back to the inside and waiting another day to get what I had ordered "rush ship". -- There's too much Scot in me for that!! Guess I'll have to talk to the postal workers, since my note to them bore no fruit.
