If it was that group of kids.... Yes, I would have felt unsafe. This wasn't the group of kids I've seen at Spanish Springs or at LSL. Different group.

In my previous life I was a public speaker.... I was the Diversity Marketing Manager and Public Speaker for a very large corporation. I worked with different ethnic groups. I don't find people of "any" color scary! I traveled and went into downtown Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit. I know kids just milling around and kids who might be trouble.

As to the attempted "break in" I explained, I didn't see that. I'm telling you what I saw.

If I saw those same kids ANYWHERE..... I would not feel safe.

I don't know and I don't care why people want to ignore that there could be a problem. There may not be.... I don't know.

Regardless.... when you go to the square, until they figure out what is going on... just be watchful. If you are a female, park your car/cart in the square if you are planning on returning to it late at night.

If there is one thing I have learned in life it is to listen to my gut (intuition)!

Check out what this guy had to say. Apparently Oprah liked the book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gift_of_Fear

It is apparent after reading all o the comments that some, perhaps most has to do with the manner The Villages Lifestyle was marketed. It is clear to me even after 7 years that village employees focused on village selling points leaving many with the impression that this was a closed gated community built for those who had the money to make a huge investment. They didn't lie they just didn't say anything that might cause some to back away from buying.

Given that this is not a private community you see that the public shares in most of what is available to us including the cart paths

When the Developer moved to prevent other communities from utilizing our cart paths village residents demanded he take down that wall.

I had witnessed some teens at LSL three years ago that were spoiling for a fight with anyone.

I believe the squares will be monitored and most situation handled low key saving any extreme action matched to any extreme altercations, crimes in progress, etc.

I am reluctant to post on this but I will just say::::
If a person or persons is acting suspicious rather 8 or 80, investigate, but DO NOT LET IT CONTINUE. If it looks like a duck, well you know.

I find the original complaint on the mark... I have seen trouble just waiting to materialize .... Stop this behavior now! Or we will not be going to the square!
I have seen minor bad behavior myself and even cross the street to avoid them.. This is quite sad seeing this in The Villages our last place (we thought)

Do not make excuses ... "This occurs everywhere". Or. "Kids will be Kids". Or
"I don't see the problem from where I am standing or live".

Well said, and I am the original VILLAGES LIBERAL, but, we must be vigilant when a situation arises that fits the profile of trouble. I would rather apologize for misjudging a young group than tolerate violence or vandalizing property.

Thank you, angiefox, for sharing what happened to you.

Why would you people infer that angiefox was lying? She lives in TV and she loves TV.

I think it's good to be REALISTIC. The Villages is a wonderful community and a great place to live. It's pretty close to perfect - for a community with over 100,000 people. However, it does border on a city that maybe isn't quite as perfect as TV. I don't know of any city that doesn't have problems and Wildwood (for as nice as it is), has their problems.

Since I was the one who posted the article about "The Wild Wild West" yesterday (was it just yesterday?), I want you to know that I am not one to spread unnecessary rumors. I didn't take writing that post lightly.

I received that "Wild Wild West" article from one of TV Security Guards who is a friend of mine. Within the past hour, I asked him about the validity of that article and he said it was truthful. He said a lot more........and it wouldn't be prudent to post it. I think you've heard enough. However, perhaps if Janet Tutt wouldn't be so lax, things might improve. We, the residents of TV, should demand better.

My personal experience. I had the side of my car scratched by a key while I was at Brownwood.

I also went inside the Sales Center and asked why they no longer have that one "saddle seat" in the fake bar area that's so cute. The sales people said some kids came in and ruined it. It's gone.

I know you don't want to hear that there is a problem. But isn't it better to know now and do something about it? You people did something about that Wall.

Your OP was spot on and appreciated. It is just that we have some friends and family on this site that only find the negative and we become a little jaded because of that. I agree with your concern. I have never experienced a problem in the years we have been here, but, I remain vigilant to the possibility.

I am sure that anti-Janet Tutt comment was made by some POA groupie that is never satisfied with anything ( especially anything pro-Developer).

Sounds as they would rather move away but yet they stay. What is the word for that?

Personally, I think curfews are in order in communities that want them.

I could see having a curfew of 9:30pm at the squares (or the last movie time). Once the bands are done playing, there's no reason for teens to be there (except exiting the movies).
