Default private parties at public parties

Attended the 5th anniversary of Cody's Sunday and also to watch favorite football team. We were listening to music and watching the game when several people showed and started moving in around us and sitting down. Great, all here to celebrate Cody's anniversary. NOT! The owner was their the music playing and they all started celebrating a private birthday party for some lady that cleans the bar after hours.Several folks went and found seating outside but said they were there to celebrate a birthday? They brought in food in trays and everyone starting helping themselves. One person went up to get a plate thinking it was for Cody's and they said this food is for those invited to the private party. They then brought out a large cake again thinking for Cody's Not! you guessed it only for the private party in this public restaurant. They started walking all thru the place only giving cake to people for the birthday party and not offering to anyone else. I started to think maybe we shouldn't even be listening to the music since normally its not on Sundays and might be for the Birthday? Is this norm for TV? where people just decide to get together and take over these places ?

What was management's response when you asked? You did ask didn't you?

stewartjames - Perhaps I don't understand...are you thinking that only those who wanted to celebrate the anniversary should have been permitted to be there?

I think if it was a get together for invited people, they should have put tables together and used only those tables
I'm ok, with the food and cake only being for the birthday party people

I guess I just don't get the outrage? It was a private party in a public place. Happens all the time--in every place I've ever lived.

Managements response was that it was a birthday party. heck the owner brought out a gift. What i'm saying is normally a private party is held in a separate area, where food and gifts can be presented privately. Not during a football game, 5th Anniversary of Codys opening, where the "guests" were sitting everywhere! Have a bit of common courtesy, and eat your food, cake, open your gifts in a separate area. Not just running through the entire place and not including others in the area. Heck the more the merrier!

stewartjames: you are right to have been a little annoyed. This restaurant appears clueless. sounded like a keystone kops exercise

It's always been seedy.

The new one at Brownwood is a lot better with far more space outside to spread out and it's clean.

WOW !! So sorry you were so put out !
It was my birthday party. I have my birthday party there every year on their anniversary.
I had my birthday party there 5 years ago the day they opened.
Sorry when I cut the cake you weren't offered a piece. We were passing it out to a lot of people that weren't part of my party, but obviously we missed a few.
Yes everyone was walking around talking with everyone, but we all do that if there's a party or not.
And yes, the food that Codys put out was for my party. Yes, I did tell someone that it was for a private party.
And yes, Codys brought in entertainment for my party but mostly for "their anniversary".
And yes, I did get a beautiful gift from the owner.
Heads up, I'll probably do it again next year. It's a tradition that we celebrate together.
Oh, and P.S. I am not part of the cleaning staff. Don't know where that came from !!
