Default Question for ParCar Owners

How many hours a year do you put on your cart and how often have you had to replace your batteries?

The reason I am asking is we have a 2012 cart purchased brand new in April of 2012. We have 597 hours on it and I am told by the dealer it sounds like we need new batteries. The other thing I was told is most people average around 150 hours a year. He said at the rate we are going we would be replacing batteries every year to year and a half.

Please, lets not make this an electric vs gas cart thread. I would like honest answers, not why we should have bought gas instead. Thanks!

I couldn't tell you by hours, but we had a Parcar that we drove 25 miles each day, Monday through Friday. I would also drive it golfing or visiting on the weekends. We replaced our batteries every two and a half to three years. We only used Trojan batteries and it was a 48v. Don't know if that means anything to you but that was our experience for seven years.

I have had a club car electric, currently have an e-z-go electric and a par car electric. All three carts are driven more than you drive and I got between 3 - 4 years on batteries
In each brand. Let's do the math on your par car. From April 2012 till now is 19 months use. 19 months times 30 days per month is 570 days. You use the cart 597 hours over 570 days.
Just a little more than one hour use per day. That is low use. My par car batteries came with a 18 months, full replacement under warranty, parts and labor. From 19 to 36 months a pro rated warranty not to exceed 500 hours of use.

I hope this helps. Did you purchase from the local Par Car dealer? Did you get a warranty?

Have had a Club Car since 2006. (Bought brand new) Original batteries lasted 3 1/2 years, when they were under warranty for 4 yrs. They replaced with cheaper new batteries, that lasted , maybe two. Had Trojans put in for approx. 650.00 almost two years ago, and everything is fine. Cannot tell you how many hours I use, but I play at least a 100 rounds of golf a year (championship) plus use for other things.

Don't know averages but 150 hours seems low. We probably are a light user at maybe 10 hours a week or 500 hrs a year. Maybe 8 to 10 miles a day. Cart is new so have originsl battery.

I have a 2010 par car street legal so i drive at about 27 mph and i also avg. over 25 miles a day or about 7500 miles per year....I had my 3rd set of batteries put in 9mos. ago and just needed to have 2 replaced under warranty by battery boys. In the 9mos time i had 250 hours or abour 6300 miles on this set. I realize being a street legal that i use more power because of higher speed....what you have to look at is if you travel your 25miles a day and only figure 300 days a year that is 7500 miles.....now figure that at a gas cart getting 40 mpg that would be about 185 gallons of gas at say $3.30 a gal. = $610.00 a year. The first time I had to replace my batteries I was also very upsset after only 14 mos. but after figuring mileage and cost it's about the same.

Our 2010 Star Cart was purchased in Nov 2009. Just recently have noticed that normal driving puts the meter down to 50%. Still able to drive to any course, play 18 and get home with 50% left but a few years ago, that trip would have hardly moved the needle. I still think I can eek out another 6 mo to a year if I don't want to drive all day long. If so then the batteries lasted 4.5 to 5 years. Trojan 8 6 volt system, not bad.

Yes, we purchased the cart from the Par Car dealer and we also have the same warranty on the batteries. Unfortunately we are out of warranty and the new batteries would still cost $900+. I also thought this was low usage and it is kind of frustrating to think we would need to spend that kind of money every year and a half. I guess we will wait to see what they tell us when they check them out next week.

Thank you, your answer did help and is much appreciated.

It seems like other than the street legal cart people are getting more than 19 months of usage. We will see what the dealer says after they check them out next week. Thanks for all of the replies!

We bought a "pre-owned" 2006 Par Car in 2007. We replaced the batteries only once in 2012. We only use the cart in the winter for six months each year. We leave it plugged in during the summer.

Maintenance is the most important issue with battery life. Proper watering, and water levels must be maintained. Do not leave your cart plugged in for long periods of time as another poster said. It's a good way to boil out your batteries. Just do a Google search for golf cart battery maintenance.

Agreed, we do all the proper maintenance and per their recommendation have had the cart in every 6 months for them to check it out. The cart was picked up on Tuesday, waiting for a call today to see what the problem is.
