Default Gutters Are Cheap...

...standard sized gutters and downspouts cost about $3 a linear foot installed. I had my downspouts connected to 6-inch PVC piping which runs underground several feet out into the lawn, where the PVC terminates with a section that comes up to lawn level, with a pop-up cover on top (you could use a slotted drain cover as well). That way the water from the gutter is more widely disbursed into the lawn. This idea can be any of the gutter installation company at minimal cost. Call T&D Screen Enclosures. They do gutters as well and were the ones who did mine.

Jamies Landscaping did ours the same way. Its a great way to get the water out into the lawn area, and really saves the mulch material from being washed away in heavy rains that we get during the summer months.

We have a designer home that had only the small gutters. as the rains came we kept adding gutters around the house ($1.00 ft.) untill it was all done. It is much better now. All of the water is directed away from the lanai and house into our plantings.

Wasn't going to install them but it really helped with runoff into the lanai. Much more usable during rain now.

Default Gutters

We moved to Sanibel in October and recently installed gutters for the entire home. It is worth the few hundred to invest in them.

Thanks for the recommendation. On my builder walk through, he advised adding gutters. Since I'll be using T&D to add a hot tub and birdcage...I'll just include the gutters. I am so excited!!!!

We had gutters put on because the rain came down the side of the house and the windows where there were none. Something we've only seen in our years in the south, partial gutters or no gutters. Go for the gutters because it could damage stucco if you have that finish.
