Default Is recycling mandatory or voluntary?

Can someone tell me if recycling is mandatory, and, if so, what is the penalty for not doing it?

Voluntary but still the right thing to do.

Anything plastic will forever stay where you put it. It never decomposes. You could compare it to steroids. Best and worst discovery ever. Science not fiction. If you've ever worn polartec fleece you have witnessed the miracle of recycling.

Strictly voluntary, but nearly everyone I know does it for good reason.

LMAO! Just moved from the PRoNJ 2 weeks ago and the first thing I did was flip Christie the bird as I passed over the Del Mem bridge. Couldn't wait to trade in my $9500 taxes for $950.

It's irresponsible not to recycle and takes little effort.

Default Why Not?

Why not recycle? You pay for it anyway on your utility bill each month.

The others responding are right about the plastics and other things, too. Recycling is not a new concept, but just goes a few steps further than trash. We always recycled....hand-me down clothes (now everyone want new), glass milk bottles, Coke (all soda pops) bottles, etc. Heck, even Good Will, Salvation Army, Red Cross, and like organizations are all forms of recycling.

I'm a big fan of recycling. Some organizations take aluminum cans, the Humane Society takes old towels, etc.
IMHO everyone should recycle as much as possible.

I helped my parents over the years when visiting recycle. clear and color glass separate and then glass one day, plastic another day, garbage another day papers another day ,cans pull labels off flatten cans another day. my mother kept the recycle schedule on her refrig. when I first looked at it it took about a 1/2 hour to figure it
out.

When our town in Minnesota went to recycling it was simple and all the same day and the kicker they credited your account if recycled. Here they make you pay to recycle. Hmmmmm
