Ours was already in place when we bought, but just FYI another consideration would be how long would it be to get one built should it be a gamechanger for you....seems that a lot of things are taking forever to get done anymore with COVID being the excuse for both price and time to install. At this point, if I really wanted a birdcage area to use, I would definitely be looking only at homes with existing birdcage areas I was happy with. Right now I understand pools are being contracted to build and the schedule date is a year out. Crazy!

No idea of current prices (sorry) 6 years ago, our 800 square foot birdcage was around $18k, this included electrical work for 4 outlets, relocating the irrigation lines (3 or 4 as I recall), the concrete pad, and the birdcage structure. I would guess at least 25% higher now and a long wait.

We just had one installed. 24 x 48 with a 40’ panoramic screen. The sides are 10’ high. We were replacing an existing one and had the original drawings, so the engineering fees were minimal. Total cost $22,300. Lead time less than a month.

We had a 1,200 sq ft birdcage built 3 years ago. Total cost with concrete pad was $30K. Went with Kilcrease Construction - Do Not Recommend!
We should have waited for Brian & Terry Vinyl. They did our 1st cage about a year before the new one (we then moved - haha). Cost was far lower than any other bids, and once they start they stay on your job till finished. We went with Kilcrease because BTV had a 9 month wait to start. Kilcrease did a horrible job on concrete, and it was hard to get him back to fix things. |

They’ve always been surprisingly expensive when we northerners check into having one built or expanded. A major post-hurricane change in the building code a number of years ago increased the price further, due to the cost of aluminum. Now the supply chain interruptions resultant from COVID seems to have increased prices and waiting times even further. The prices must be truly frightening for those thinking about add-on construction.

Yea, even if you do it yourself which I have. Building material has skyrocketed too, but it’s a lot cheaper if you can do it yourself. If you can’t do it yourself & you want a birdcage well don’t do it or spend the money. What else is there!
