Go on adopt a pet (it’s part of petfinder), if you pay $10.00 you will be the first to get an alert when a small dog becomes available. Also, check out shelters in south Florida if you are willing to drive. Animal-aid.com, Tri-County Humane Society, Peggy Adams, Dogs and Cats Forever. All no kill and all have little dogs.

Try Max's Pet Connection and Adopt a Pet.com. Both are online with pictures and info on adoptable dogs. I am sure you will find something on those sites.

I'm a dog volunteer at Your Humane Society/SPCA in Lake Panasoffkee and we currently have some smaller dogs. They don't last long when they're released from the quarantine area where they are now to be available for adoption. Your best bet is to stop by and talk to the adoption manager.

I agree with everything you said. I volunteer for Your Humane Society of Sumter County. There are a few dogs who are adopted and brought back within a week. One was a puppy (4 months) whose adoptive adult claimed he was not housebroken and when let out into the yard by himself, the puppy dug holes in the yard and ripped up flowers and shrubs. But he is a puppy! Of course he will not be trustworthy alone in the yard, and for sure he isn't housebroken.

Also, it takes time to adjust to a new home. My feeling is that a week is not long enough. Potential adopters of rescue dogs would do well to read the "3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months" rule of adopting a rescue. https://www.espanolahumane.org/wp-co...s-333-Rule.pdf

We've had two fullbreds, two rescues, and four or 5 fosters. The fullbreds from puppies were the easiest because they didn't have any behaviors that had to be corrected. They had plenty to learn, but it was on our terms.

go to the shelters and look meet several dogs and see if they take a shine to you and vice versa. There are so many pets out there looking for a forever home. But don't sit in your house waiting for them to come to you. Seek and ye shall find.

Cockapoo or any dog poo is a precious looking, intelligent, family friendly and sharp as a whip. I vote for anything ……poo!

Amen great post. You can find everything in one place. I got my two fur babies recently through Petfinder.com.... it covers all pet rescues within the mileage you are willing to look/travel. Rescue don't shop.... best way to go, they provided medical, shots, micro chips, spay or nuder ... go for it... and happy furever. I might add both were well adjusted, potty and people friendly... non aggressive to my other cat... all bonded fast.
