Default Residents - Most useful tools you brought when you moved to TV

In the Villages, and throughout Florida, garages seem to fill themselves very quickly. Attics are hot, and involve stairs. Need I mention overflowing closets?

With the premium on storage space in mind, what are the three most useful tools you have found essential since moving to the Villages?

A cooler, a bottle opener and a lawn chair.
Naw, just the basics unless you plan on being an active gardner. Quite frankly, I would not bring any. You can go to most garage sales and pick up the tools you will need

By far the most used "basic" is the Golf Cart!

Hammer, screwdriver kit and level. Therse are needed to put up all of the pictures that somehow appear on the honey-do list.

Actually this is a good question.....one I think about all the time.
Space IS a premium down there.....smaller garage, (mine now is 24 by 40), no basements in Florida, etc.

The high cost of moving stuff has convinced me to sell some of my tools and re-buy new ones down there. Table saws, radial arm saws, etc would be too expensive to move 1300 miles.

Some smaller tools will be given to the kids, etc....but some are not replaceable and will stay with me. Of course, my rototiller and snowblower will stay here.....

How about a villages map?

Also installing cabinets, drawers and extra hanging bars for the closet....kind of like california closets but the do it yourself kind from Lowe's or HD....

HUGE difference for the closets!!!

Cassie,
That is actually on the list for our next trip down there in 24 days!!

The wife wants me to redesign the master closet, and our laundry closet now has a new stacked front loading combo, so now all new shelving, etc, will have to be done in there......

One of our MANY planned projects for May.

Speaking of tools, I'm SO excited because my wife was SO smart last October when we last left down there. She decided to leave one whole suitcase full of summer clothes down there. I said, "Why??"

She replied, "Because you will not need any shorts, tee shirts, etc back home....it will be winter and we'll not wear any of these again until we return to Florida in May."

SO....now I get to bring down 50 pounds more of tools on the plane, (cargo) and leave them in Florida, and return with those summer clothes instead.

BOY that was smart of her!!!! Smartest thing she thought of since she married me 30 years ago......

As far as bringing down table saws and other big woodworking equipment, there is no need. Just join the woodworking club and you'll have all the tools you could ever use to build anything from pens to entertainment centers, and everything in between.

How much does it cost to join the club? My father in law is interested....

Please go to WWW.VWC704.com for information on the Villages Woodworkers Club.

Be sure to click on the Gallery and the Woodturners pages to see some of the cool things that they make.

My husband works in the garage and lately, in order not to fill the place with sawdust, drags his table saw out to the driveway. No problem.

I will probably replace my radial arm saw with a smaller good quality slide chop saw and replace my big table saw with a good quality benchtop model, since storage is at a premium.

I got HOA approval to build a 12x20 garage addition....but am still looking for a architect to draw the blueprints for me. The building dept requires a stamped Florida architect do them.....

Those of you who have configured your garages for optimum space should post a picture and start a "Cool Garage" picture thread to share ideas.....
