Default Rug ripples

Does this happen in all the villages houses -- all my rugs have ripples in them! The house is three years old! I have owned five houses with wall to wall carpet in my lifetime and never had this happen ... Air conditioner is on all the time so it's not the temperature in the house. --- it's a designer home. Any ideas why this is happening would be helpful....thanks!

it sounds like you need to get the carpets stretched. Carpets can need stretched for a variety of reasons

We had our carpet stretched earlier this year in the 2 bedrooms that still have carpet. The third room was already converted to laminate.

We started having wrinkles within 3 years.

We used Dave's carpet care.. Did a fine job on the stretching. I wasn't as impressed with his cleaning service.

He will give you the story on why it happens.

Seems a lot of people in TV experience the same thing - carpet wrinkles. We had our carpet restretched (with a power stretcher) in Feb. with great success. According to the fellow who did the job, he said many installers don't power stretch the carpeting when it's initially installed - they just lay it down and use a knee kicker around the perimeters and call it complete.

I do think some have problems with rug ripples. Took a few more years for it to happen in my house. Decided I didn't' want to have the carpet restretched. Had all removed and laminate flooring installed. There are some recommendations on TOTV I'm sure. If no one offers one, you can do a search. Be careful you don't trip.

When they do the restretching, do you have to move all the furniture?

They moved our stuff to one side of the room, restretched that side, then moved everything over and restretched the rest.

We used Dave's Carpet care as well (from villages07's post) and would offer the same feedback. I'd gotten another quote prior to his - it was quite a bit higher. "Lifetime warranty" on the restretching from what I recall. Though such warranties are only as good as how long the company continues to stay in business, I think we'll be o.k. - Dave's apparently been doing carpet work in the area for a number of years. (352) 217-5281 . I have no affiliation with him or his company.

Had my carpets done on a 3 bedroom home in May. Living room and bedrooms done. The carpet was very dirty and had ripples. One Company came out and told me to replace it because it would cost more to stretch. I seriously doubted that. I called another Co. Absolute Carpet 352-753-1516 and he had just finished one of the churches in the villages and had time to give me a quote that day. He quoted approx 630.00 to both clean and stretch and offered to come back on a Saturday and do it. My furniture was being delivered on Monday. They did a great job and gave me a guarantee. The carpet looked like new when they were finished. I was very impressed with this business and will use them to replace the flooring in the years to come. Also I was not home when he did the work and he did it with no money down and trusted me to send him a check.

Welcome to FL....Carpet wrinkles are are common issue here because of the humidity. We have friejnds and family who have lived in FL for 30+ yrs and they tell us they just expect they will need to get their carpet restretched every few years.

Restretching is only temporary. We've had our carpets stretched twice before finally getting rid of them and replacing with tile. They were stretched to the point where the seams started showing.

Does anyone believe it is the quality of the carpet that causes the ripples? Would you have the same problem with higher quality carpet?

When we built our house, we ordered the 2nd to the top as far as quality. We had it stretched the first time within 3 years and the 2nd time a couple years later. The best quality may be better but we ended up tiling the entire house and we love it. Much easier to clean and looks great!

I keep the windows closed and the A/C and heat on at all times and have never had a carpet problem. Maybe it is the changes in humidity when opening windows and closing them to climate cool the house?

The humidity probably does affect the carpet but usually it is only humid in the hot summer months and we also keep the windows closed with A/C on but not the heat.
