Our Nordic Trac has a strange problem.
It turns on and will only go at speeds of 2 and 8 mph. None of the other controls will work. With a friend (who knows a lot more than me and did 98% of the work) we took apart the control panel, cleaned the contacts and still the same problem. Does anyone know of a technician who works on Nordic Tracs? |

My guess is you are referring to a treadmill. They are driven by dc motors controlled by a speed controller. If you are attached to this equipment, I would snag a controller on ebay and try a remove and replace. The motors are quite reliable. |

Thanks for your suggestions.
Called Nordic trac this morning. They will not help diagnose over the phone. Good chance it is the circuit board but cannot be 100% certain. New board costs $ 159.91 plus shipping and not likely they would take back if it does not fix the problem. Having their tech guy come to diagnose costs $ 159 base cost and than return with the part costs an additional $ 65. Not worth putting that much money into a 7-8 year old treadmill, so we will have to consider if she will use it enough to buy a new one. |

If you scrap it the motors are useful. You can get a basic speed controller on Amazon for 25.00. This sort of controller is useful if you use the motor for grinder or to add variable speed to a lathe or bandsaw.
It's a fun little project. I have seen some used to repower smitty style mills. If you are feeling adventurous, look at the capacitors on the speed controller board, if they are bulging or split that is the problem. |
