No, the cart was in the garage at 5:30 in the morning.

When they went out to get the newspaper this morning, around 5:30AM, they accidently left the garage door open. A neighbor thinks they saw the cart in the garage at 6:30. When the cart owner went out to the garage around 7:30, they saw that the cart, on which sat a set of clubs, was gone.

I'm so sad for the loss and wanted to let the TOTV community aware of what happened. This was in Caroline.

Now I wish I had paid more attention to details. I woke up a little before 8 this morning and as I was opening the blinds, a vehicle with a little trailer attached was hauling a white (I think it was white) golf cart. Since it was being hauled and not driven, I even commented to hubby that someone was getting a new golf cart. I didn't see where it went after it passed the house. We are staying at Emmale Place in The Village of Caroline. I'm wondering now if that could have been the stolen golf cart?!?

So happy you're here...hope you're enjoying your visit...I'm sure you are.

We're closer to the gate, a bit away from where you're staying. I do believe their cart is blue, but I'm not positive. You probably saw a cart either returning from servicing, heading to servicing or indeed, delivery of a new cart. The cart taken was removed most likely between 6:30 and 7:30.

Continue to enjoy your time here...and did you bring your checkbook???..... ;) ;) ;)

Yes Pooh, we're having a grand time, not counting the $191.00 speeding ticket I got in Starke, FL on the way or the visit to Urgent Care our 1st night here. Things are definately looking up. Ohhhh, and we did indeed bring our checkbook. Been checking out open houses almost every day. We absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!!!!

Cart Theft

Were were here for our closing and I visited several cart dealers.

As a Car Guy I asked what keeps anyone from stealing the vehicle.

Yamaha better dealers install personel keys. Yet all you need to do is put the cart in tow mode and its pushed away.

Best I say was the EZ Go with its electric AC motor brake. Take power away from that and the motor is locked. ALso remove the computer plug and unless a theif has that in hand the cart cannot be moved.

A smart thief can take anything fast.

I would install a fuel shut off that prevents a run and a steering wheel lock.

That said I feel so bad for the people. They must feel violiated. I used to leave the keys in our rentals and I see garage doors open all over the villages.

Let's not all start thinking it is a common occurance. It is the first time I have ever heard anything like this..

I am still trying to figure out how this could have happened. Garage doors being left open that early are not common at all. How could that thief be there at just the right time, unless that person left their garage door open every day when they got their paper. But........???

I know of neighbors in Hadley that leave their garage door open whenever they are home.

Then in our new neighborhood someone is parking that cart at the mail drop all the time. And we have all kinds of construction traffic all of the time and lookers who drive around just to see the new neighborhood. It is there right now.

This was the first time any of us had heard of a cart being taken from a garage. Please don't worry, Happinow.

I also have neighbors here in Hemingway and also in Hadley that leave their garage door open when they are home, sometimes far into the night (or all night for all I know) and have never had anything stolen. The one time I left mine open accidentally all night, Community Watch was on my case immediately.
once in a while a garage door will fail to close, or will spring open from halfway closed. Mine did until I got it fixed Maybe they thought it was closed.
We must all be more careful to dot our p'a and q's. Oops wrong metaphor.

most homes on the historical side dont have garages. so keeping the door closed always doesnt seem so importatnt. i havnt heard of any problems with those folks.

skip0358 01-12-2012 06:59 AM

Just a guess.

It was recycle day. Every garbage and recycle day there are people who ride early in the AM looking for treasures. Remember the stolen suitcases last year? I myself have seen the early morning treasure hunters. Unfortunatly this treasure was in someones garage. Sorry for your loss. This was an accident but how many people especially in the hot weather leave there garage doors open about 2 feet almost 24x7. This is a safe community but these are tough times and the community is an open community!

Nothing yet reported in The Daily Sun but I have copied an article appearing this morning about the theft of golf clubs from two separate locations in The Villages on Monday aftenoon.

It takes awhile here to get the news. Thank heavens for Talk of the Villages.

Insurance Fraud Sqaud calling...Hello!

2BNTV 01-12-2012 08:38 AM

Insurance, unique ignition key and kill switch is what I gleaned from this thread.

Professional thieves will know how to steal something quickly. It sounds like a unfortunate set of cicumstances. I hope their insurance covers this loss and it is so inconvemient to have to go through this not to mention feeling violated.

How sad. I know I would be upset if this happened to me.

Best wishes they their golf cart replaced with the minimum of heartache.

Herv, I believe all the new gas Yamaha carts that come from both the TV store(s) and Carts and Clubs up in Ocala have fuel shut-off valves on the top of the tanks as standard issue equipment.

Bill :)
