I am an early riser and usually get my papers from 4:00 to5:00 AM on ost days. I can tell you that I can tell you that Lady godiva could ride her white horse through our neighorhood and no one would have been aware.

I admonish my wife often because she has a habit of leaving the garge door up. I have changed the key n my cart and still understand that it can be stolen easily.

Also GG mentioned that golf clubs were stolen. I read in todays Daily (1/12) that two sets on the same cart were stolen at Lake sumter landing as the couple went to breakfast after golf and a third set at souther Trace Parking Lot on buena vista.

All three sets were valuable clubs so the theives know what they are looking for.

Did the person who was robbed call the police to the house right away? What did the police report say?

It is a shame that this has happened and we all need to be more aware of this type of activity. That being said, hubby and I went to LSV in our cart one evening during the holidays when it was pretty busy. We pulled into our space. I looked over at the cart next to ours and noticed an afghan on the seat with the keys in the ignition. I remember saying to my husband that I wondered what this person was thinking in doing this. I guess, not thinking??

It's too bad that criminals can't keep their mitts off of other people's hard earned possesions like golf clubs and golf carts. When I rented last year I double checked to be sure I never left the keys in the golf carts that came with the houses I rented. I hope the golf cart thieves get caught quickly.

We recently purchased in the historic side and purchased a new club car. The dealer said that a club car key will fit any other club car unless you have purchased a special new ignition and key. That is not always fool proof either, as a good quality thief can in a very short time hot wire it anyway. We did not get the new ignition but instead a wheel lock boot at a truck and trailer supply store. We lock it in the garage and anywhere we leave it. I am sure some have found it funny we do thay , but we walk away with no worries. We knew carts are stolen from reading here on the forum so we took the precautions. LB & LB

I think if the bell out of a church can be stolen for scrap metal (reported nationally) than easy pickens such as expensive golf clubs, and carts were bound to happen.

Was it Dillinger who stated when asked why he robbed banks, replied, "That's where the money is". (If not Dillinger, than somebody just as notorious).

I am sure by now the word is out that there sure are a lot of stuff to steal around The Villages.

Suspicious
 

I wonder if anyone saw anything suspicious about someone removing a golf bag from a cart and walking away with it or putting the bag in the trunk of a car/cart. I would have thought that looked strange. I might not have said anything but if I read about the theft in the paper I would have called the police to report what I saw.

Great Neighbors
 

We have great neighbors. If our garage door is open for any length of time or at an unusual time we can always expect a call from our neighbor's asking if we wanted it to be open. Most of time it is no and thank them for their kind watching. We always watch out for each others home if one is out of town and would report any unusual things. THis works really well and I think more should do this. We live in a cul-d-sac so it is easy to watch each others property. :popcorn:
