Default Safety ‘Tip of the Day’ for all!!

Ok….here is your safety tip of the day to help you stay safe around the Villages.
People….around the town squares do NOT walk in between the golf carts or cars to cross the street!!! Use the corner cross walk areas to cross the street! Drivers are very courteous to allow you to cross at those crosswalks and that will allow you to safely get to the other side of the street! But…when you come walking into the street from in between cars and or golf carts the cars or golf carts on the street don’t always see you right away ‘jaywalking’ across the street! Just last night saw two couples nearly get hit because they just walked right across the middle of the street at Lake Sumter Landing thinking any cars or golf carts would see them and stop and allow them to cross. Again….there are crossing areas at each corner so walk a few extra steps to the corner or ‘crossing’ area and be safe! You only have to get hit once to ruin your quality of life!
That’s it….that’s your safety tip of the day! Be safe, stay safe, around the Villages!

Another....................when walking on the street or on a path, walk against traffic.

There must be a state or two in the USA which teaches to walk with traffic.
You can't see what's coming and since U R old, you can't hear what's coming.

Wise words.

I was driving in front of Lowes (off 441), where there are numerous pedestrian crossings, when a young man walked straight out from behind a wall on a "plain" section of road and shouted "We're in Florida!" when I had to jam on my brakes to avoid hitting him.

Not sure what the official ruling is, but I guess those crossings were painted just as a job creation scheme.

I have an important tip when in the villages. Look both ways before crossing a one way street here! Check twice !

That's the best TIP OF ALL... get OFF the phone ! I just saw a lady actually WALK INTO A FOUNTAIN, did not fall into it, but fell, skinned arm, and broke cell phone. See people nearly everyday walking or driving into traffic, and people walking into traffic from BETWEEN two parked autos and so buy on the phone they appear to have no awareness of on coming traffic ? Also once witnessed a person walking the quay at a cruise port who, had they NOT bumped into a large piling while staring at their cell phone screen, would have actually fallen into the dink ! Some people seem absolutely transfixed with cellphone screens !

That is how I tell the difference between city folks and country folks.

Good tips.

Another thing...check brake and backup lights on parked vehicles when driving through parking lots. A lot of people back out of their parking spaces without really checking if traffic is coming. And another thing: a lot of those lots (Wal-Mart on 441 is one such) where the traffic lanes in the lot is one-way only. But apparently there are some folks who don't really know what those arrows painted on the pavement mean. checking BOTH ways when backing out, instead of just in the direction of oncoming traffic, can save you from a fender-bender.

If your vehicle doesn't have a backup camera, or at least sensors that warn you of something in the rear, buy another vehicle.

Look before you back up, I've seen so many near misses because of this.

Or park in a pull-through site so you don't have to back up.

At our postal station, I always back into the parking spaces.

...and don't get me started on those people who drive diagonally across parking lots!

I always park my cart facing out, so I don't have to back out and potentially run over someone. I also do the same with my car....much safer for you and me.
