Default Music at the Rec. pools

My wife and I were went to Fishhawk pool the other day and we noticed there was not the usual Villages radio station coming from the speakers around the pool. We asked the gentleman working at the front desk and he said it was because T.V. and Comcast were having a contract dispute. Something about Comcast charging T.V.. There are times when we really enjoy the ambience and energy the music provides. Hope they work something out. Does anyone know any more about this situation?

It is hard to see a connection with the music from The Villages radio station and a contract with Comcast.

I don't understand.

I thought this was gonna be a thread about a person playing their music at the pool and others not enjoying their music.

Some topics just keep getting re-introduced, like dog poop and roundabouts.

And the fact that some folks don't like The Daily Sun. Not me. I love The Daily Sun. Both the paper and the one that makes me tan.

What makes it even weirder, if that's a word, is that the guy said it had something to do with switching from analogue to digital, which I thought happened years ago. The thing with playing/bringing your own music is while my taste in music is impeccable, others don't always share my view.

Probably the rec center was rebroadcasting channel 99 over their speaker system and there are usually laws against doing that without permission/fee.

Seems they could broadcast WVLG with a radio going through their speaker system?

Folks think music should be free. That's because they have no idea of the cost and work that it takes to create art.

I am not a defender of Comcast; but, publishing and mechanical rights need to be paid for the right to have a public performance. Musicians get very little money from the physical sale of CDs. Money comes from actual performances, publishing and mechanicals.

Let me put this in context:
A guy calls the musicians' guild to get a quote on a 6 piece band for a wedding. The rep says "Off the top of my head, about $2000". He says, "WHAT? FOR MUSIC?. "The rep responds " I'll tell you what. Call the plumbers' union & ask for six plumbers to work from 6 to midnight on a Saturday night. Whatever they charge you, we'll work for half."

As long as they replace it with something as stable as Comcast. And I don't think that will ever happen.

Cable companies do not carry signals for free. They charge a fee. The only stations that they must carry are local TV stations whether they are network or PBS. As they say.."All others pay cash". Since WVLG is neither a cable or over-the-air broadcast TV product none of the rules apply, so I am quite sure there is a charge for carrying. They were no doubt fighting over a hundreth of a cent, which occurs often in the cable business.

We have ComCast here in Baltimore and Verizon has recently released their FIOS product in the market. The main value of FIOS is that is has drastically driven down the cost of subscriptions between the two services. Should FIOS come along in TV and you have a cable-wired home, be prepared for a VERY invasive installation process if you want FIOS.

In the long run, both companies offer almost exactly the same product, delivered in almost exactly the same manner. Their prices will be very competitive. BUT..No matter what company you choose the customer service will still be very, very poor.

i am a regular at Fish Hawk and I was told the system was broken. No further explanation as to why, what or when. The iPod works just fine!
