Default Screened garage doors

For those of you that have it are the screened garage doors really worth it? Are the expensive? Pros and cons?

For us we absolutely love the garage screen door. Just about every day we have the screen down so the garage gets airflow but especially the last few days have allowed us to open the interior doors to get a nice breeze through the house. We spent the extra for an electric roll-up screen door, maybe $2k, rather than the side across doors.

I have had three Florida homes, and have had screens in all three (sliders) because:

1. Keeps out the unwanted critters from hiding behind cabinets, etc., so they don't end up in the house.

2. Reduces the heat in the garage (always get the solar screen not the standard see thru black). It still gets hot but in the warmest months it feels 20 degrees cooler when you come in from the hot sun (various contractors have commented on the difference when they enter the garage).

3. Solar (white) screen is private but you can see out (potential thieves can't see inside your garage when the overhead door is open).

4. Keeps the dog in (although we don't have a dog anymore).

5. Easier to access garage for yard work without raising and lower door constantly.

Probably other conveniences but these are the primary advantages. My cost for a double garage door was approx $800. Well worth the money over time.

Bobcuse could you tell me about a double door ?
I've seen sliders that consist of three or four that slide and a single that goes up> How does the double work? Thanks

We purchased our house in April and had them installed a couple of weeks after we closed. Prior to having the screens put on a corn snake came to visit us. So in my opinion, yes, they are definately worth it. We have the sliding screens on a double garage and paid about $750.

Any recommendations for installer? Or, did you purchase and install yourself?

I can't recommend an installer as our white sliders were on the resale that we purchased.

If you go with the sliders, which we love, I would think it mighty difficult to "square them up" so that thy slide well but you might be a better DIYer than me!
