My sister sent me a link to an article from **************.com but the website has "imploded" evidently. I can't get on and neither can my sister. This is the headline I copied and pasted from my email.......

https://www.**************.com/fema-...llages-debris/ EDIT: I see TOTV censors the website. Hmmm. I'll try to post the article......... FEMA hauler’s subcontractors head south rather than pick up Villages debris Last updated September 25, 2017 By Staff Report 17 Comments The Villages District Office has acknowledged that subcontractors working for a FEMA-approved hauler have headed south. The District made the admission as anger mounts over post-Hurricane Irma debris which remains uncollected in countless Villages’ driveways. Frustrated residents began dumping debris at postal stations and recreation centers. The District is now moving to Plan B. “It is unfortunate that our contracted company, along with most contracted companies throughout central Florida, have had their subcontractors heading south for work due to monetary reasons,” the District said in an announcement Monday afternoon. “Although a number of Crowder-Gulf’s (CG) subcontractors have left, CG and the District have been working diligently with the District’s contractors to become eligible debris haulers and we now have backfilled a number of the vehicles that left.” Meanwhile, regular waste hauler CH2MHill has been green-lighted to resume removal of yard waste in Community Development Districts 9 and 10, located south of County Road 466A. Damage in that part of The Villages was not as severe. CDDs 3 and 4 will also have normal yard waste removal resume this week as storm debris will have been removed by that time. In addition, the District acknowledged the office has been deluged with email and phone calls, and not all have been returned. Many of those callers have demanded reimbursement for waste hauling services which have not been rendered. Google+ AOL MailShare91

Yes, I got on the website also. That is how I was able to post the body of the article in the second post of this thread.
The article doesn't mention some of the Districts. I'm in one of those unmentioned Districts but I'm not going to bother to call the CDD. Why bother at this point? They seem to inundated with phone calls.

Any reason while yard waste put in biodegradable paper bags can't be picked up now. Wonder what employees who normally do this, are doing on those days?

Why is it funny? It is worrying to her. We can help as a group. Are you willing to take some of her debris?

From two VCCD emails late afternoon 9/25 :
====================================== "Date: 9/25/2017 Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented event in The Villages. We appreciate the calls and inquiries we have received and the ability to explain what is transpiring regarding a number of services which includes vegetative debris removal. Although not all emails and phone calls have been returned, we are doing our best to do so. As information, the Community Development Districts do have a contract with a company to provide vegetative removal after a weather event. It is unfortunate that our contracted company, along with most contracted companies throughout central Florida, have had their subcontractors heading south for work due to monetary reasons. At this moment, the State Attorney General is actually looking into this situation and the potential legal issues involved. However, although a number of Crowder-Gulf’s (CG) subcontractors have left, CG and the District have been working diligently with the District’s contractors to become eligible debris haulers and we now have backfilled a number of the vehicles that left. There have been a number of calls, inquiries and requests for credit for the lack of yard waste pickup by our contracted hauler, CH2MHILL. The company was directed to not pick up yard debris from the storm. While there are numerous valid reasons for doing so, including logistics, the salient point is that the company will be expending additional time and work to follow behind the contracted debris hauler to guarantee all debris has been removed. Once a District has had all residential storm-related debris removed, normal yard waste will resume the following Wednesday. Due to the limited amount of debris in Districts 9 and 10, a decision has been made to resume CH2MHILL removal of yard waste. However, should there be large amounts of debris/tree limbs/stumps, they will be left and will be picked up by CG. Districts 3 and 4 will also have normal yard waste removal resumed this week as storm debris will have been removed by that time. In addition, you are reminded to not take your vegetative debris to postal and recreation centers due to safety concerns. Please note that while your home may not have substantial vegetative debris, that is not the case throughout The Villages. Please bear with us as we work very hard to say good bye to Irma’s remnants and respectfully request your patience during the clean-up. "Debris Removal – UPDATED 9/25/2017 Storm related yard debris removal is continuing throughout The Villages community. All storm related yard debris should be placed curbside on residential property, but not in roadways. Please do NOT place debris in plastic bags. It may be un-bagged or in paper biodegradable bags. While the storm related debris is collected, normal yard waste collection is suspended. As the storm debris is collected, Districts will begin receiving their normal yard waste collection the following Wednesday. · Due to the limited amount of debris in Districts 9 and 10, normal yard waste collection will resume Wednesday, September 27th. Should there be large amounts of debris/tree limbs/stumps, they will be left and collected by Crowder-Gulf. · Districts 3 and 4 will resume normal yard waste collection this Wednesday, September 27th as storm debris will be removed from residential properties. · The collection in VCDD No. 3 is now complete for all residential properties. · The collection in VCDD No. 4 began on the east side of Buena Vista and residential areas are now substantially complete. Collection is now underway for the portion of VCDD No. 4 on the west side of Buena Vista. · The collection for VCDD No. 2 will be conducted west to east following the completion of collection in VCDD No. 4. · The collection in the Lady Lake/Lake County portion of The Villages began September 22nd. Once that area is complete, the contractor will begin work in VCDD No. 1. In addition, please do not take your vegetative debris to postal and recreation centers due to safety concerns.” =================================== Hope that helps to answer some of the questions.

It is not a complicated problem for the current villages management to figure out.
When Crowder (sp?) was here FEMA gets the bill. Now they are gone. TV pays to have someone do it. Maybe they are dealing with FEMA to determine what they will get reimbursed? In any case they should be moving forward with getting TV back to it's normally pristine look. I am just wandering out loud. Knowing how picky TV is about everything they do to keep this place 5 star in appearance does not compute with the weeks of delay to date and with communications thus far today......and the weeks more in front of us. Just not the way TV responds to an issue. |

In one of the DS articles about debris collection I seem to recall seeing a bit of information that Crowder-Gulf was taking the debris to an EPA approved burn site. If this is correct then I can understand why it is preferred that CG picks up the debris. Our normal hauler just take the debris to a land fill. Do we really want to all of this debris going to a landfill when there is a better method of disposal?

When I saw that FEMA was involved in the pickup equation I thought why? This isn't going to end well as we got off a lot easier than much of Florida and we had a debris removal company already. Economics played a part, I'm sure, but we're back to taking care of ourselves which is our strong point as Villagers.
