One of the functions of the gates is to slow traffic going into a village. This lets carts cross with more safety than if the traffic is not slowed/stopped by the gates. That's why I get a little annoyed when the gate attendant raises the gate to let someone through without slowing them or stopping them. With the fences or shrubs at the gates it is sometimes difficult to see if any vehicles are at the visitor lane. So you have to creep out into the lane to see. Suddenly the gate opens and a truck goes through at speed. Yikes!

I understand what you are saying... But, I kind of like the gates. It gives the impression that it's a gated community. Slows down the rift raft. I mean... I would think that if someone comes in to do something they shouldn't, they would think twice with a gate or gatekeeper in attendance.

Your thoughts?

Don't forget, there are also cameras at all of the gates. Pictures from the cameras are sometimes used to see who tore off the gate arm or maybe even to determine who came through the gate at a specific time when some incident has occurred that is being investigated. We are definitely not a gated community but we do have monitored gates. I for one like that idea.

I think many people contemplate moving to TV under the mistaken impression that it is a gated community. My real estate agent was quick to set me straight. TV is a community with gates, the purpose of which is to slow down traffic at intersections and roundabouts. Try to imagine the mayhem if there were drivers speeding to make a green light, or whizzing through a red light. Or waiting interminably for the light to change (as at the intersection of Rolling Acres and CR 466)

To be honest, I really didn't expect this kind of reaction when I first posted the question. All I was asking was if it is considered ok to use the visitors lane or do others waiting on line on the residents side consider that rude. Nowhere in that post did I express any displeasure with the gates.

Ask an innocent question, and

As a resident, I do not think it is rude to use the Visitor's lane. It makes sense to me.

Speaking of the gates, should one pick up the doggie doo while the gate is closed or open?

See Village Girl, you got your New Years wish. Happy New Year to you and yours.
