Default Seen on B.Vista @ 10am this morning

I still cannot believe I really saw this, but I did ...........

I was driving on B.Vista at 10am this morning, towards 466, when the traffic slowed and moved out into the fast lane to overtake a woman using an elliptical exercise bike on the road, the one with the small wheels and very low to the ground. She was riding an exercise bike in the road right beside a multi model path in the vicinity of Palmer. There was a police car parked on the other side of the road on the grass ...............

It is completely beyond my comprehension that anyone would use an exercise bike on one of the main roads through TV. She must value being fit over being dead!

I've heard many things here on TOTV, but this is the first one that brought Ripley's Believe it or not to mind!

I thought I'd seen it all with bicyclists until one morning when going to work around 7:45, both lanes of northbound traffic on the Morse bridge over Lake Sumter are stopping and swerving to the left, because of two people on recumbent high bikes--lying down on top of full-size racing wheels and unable to touch the ground with one foot if needed, with both legs stretched out parallel to the ground--are just plodding..I mean reclining along, in the car lane on the bridge which goes uphill in the middle and downhill then, making it difficult to see them when coming over the rise.

And then there's the roundabouts they go thru instead of the tunnel bypasses....

Why do bicyclists REFUSE to use the multi-modal lanes provided them?

Again with the hatred of cyclists?

Please read the rules of the road. In every state I know of cyclists are allowed to use the vast majority of streets that their taxes pay for. The MM paths are not the ONLY place to be.

It is inconsiderate drivers of autos that cause the problems in the majority of cases I've seen.

There is no "hatred" for cyclists. This is about not wanting to hit one and about wanting to avoid the horror.

It's also about the unnecessary risks people take, and about choosing not to take safety precautions and cooperate in safe flow of traffic.

And by the way, there was significant fog on the bridge the morning of the scenario I described above. Visibility was poor from fog in addition to not being able to see the over the rise in the bridge.

I ride a bicycle several miles a week. In my opinion that bridge by Sumter Landing is the worst area to ride any bicycle of all the villages that I've found so for. If I go across the cart path it backs up all the golf carts because It is so narrow they cannot pass. If I use the sidewalk on the bridge which is what I usually try to do and someone is walking then that creates a problem. Having said all that I decided the safest place for me was using the Street to cross the bridge. If someone has a better idea I would be glad to hear it.

Thank you for your reasonable explanation that sounds very safety-minded. You said "bicycle", which is more capable of keeping up with the speed of traffic than what I saw with the recumbent ones and their riders.

I saw a group of 12 out this morning, all wearing matching little zoot suits and riding in 3's down 441...blocking traffic in back of them, refusing to go into a single line and allowing people to pass. They were completely blocking the right lane and snarling traffic for at least a half mile. Hatred of cyclists? Yeah, when they act like this!!

Please read what I quoted from you. You told them, and I quote: "Why do bicyclists REFUSE to use the multi-modal lanes provided them?" You then said, and I quote: "And then there's the roundabouts they go thru instead of the tunnel bypasses...."

I'm using your words not mine - In this and other posts of cycles you and many others (zoot suits comment for example) have shown an ignorance of the law and an ignorance of the safety involved from the cyclist POV.

Oh well, so be it - I'm off to cycle to Publix to meet my wife for lunch with the full understanding that some people just don't get it.

IF its the same lady, she usually rides down Odell Circle around Amelia and Mallory and I'm amazed that she is so brave as to do that, but Buena Vista??? Wow. Its not at all a hatred of bikers, its the fact that they are risking their lives in order to exercise. I agree about the incumbent bikes as well, I've seen them and if GOD FORBID, there was an accident, they would be history. I don't feel its the fault of car drivers because as we all know, S**t happens, so why take a terrible chance. I just don't get it.

I think what ilovetv was objecting to was your use of the work "hatred" which you seem to have left out of your rebuttal. Hate is a very strong word and there is no room for that word in TV when referring to another person or a group.

Plenty of miles to ride a bike on both sides of the bridge. Why take your life in your hands when you don't have to. These people are crazy enough just driving a car.

Based on the continuing thread concerning the safety/annoyance factor against bicylist. If I wanted to exercise for my health I would join a gym because they offer all kinds of bikes, treadmills, etc
