Default Man attempts to rob Villages CVS pharmacy

Quote:
October 1, 2013
THE VILLAGES — Sumter County deputies are searching for a man who attempted to rob a CVS pharmacy in the massive retirement community.
The man, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and appeared to be in his mid-30s, walked into the store off County Road 466 about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and placed on the pharmacy counter a note that read: "look I need help," according to the Sheriff's Office. He then told the pharmacist that a person "was waiting outside and would shoot at them" if she didn't give him suboxone, Lt. Bobby Caruthers said in a statement.
Suboxone is a prescription drug typically used to treat heroin addiction, but it's also classified as a controlled substance.
The suspect fled the store after the pharmacist refused to hand over the drug without a prescription, Caruthers said. Deputies arrived within minutes of the attempted-robbery call and searched the area to no avail, he added.
Anyone with information on the attempted robbery can call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

We pharmacists always have prided ourselves in being the most accessible health professional. In most pharmacies I have worked in, there is no barrier to someone walking right back to the drug storage area. We do not want to seal ourselves behind bullet proof glass and talk to our patients through a microphone. However, the other side of being so accessible is the temptation for drug addicts to walk right in and rob us. After all, that's why people rob banks.....that's where the money is.
