Default My brother wants to know

He is thinking about purchasing one of these electric powered U scooters to use in TV. I sure would not use it on the roads and am not sure it would be allowed on the multi modal paths. I think he wants one because Amazon has it for 50% off for only $499. It might be a tad safer for him than using a Segway on the path.

Florida moped laws

Interesting question about legality of these on the Villages multi-modal paths. Might depend on what County they are in as well as city if one of these is involved-- Wildwood and Lady Lake.

"Who is allowed to use the multi-modal paths throughout The Villages?
This is a question that the District receives on a regular basis. The multi-modal paths are for use by NON-AUTOMOTIVE, transportation such as bicycles, golf carts, pedestrians, and skaters. It is not legalnor is it smartto drive vehicles such as smart cars, motorcycles, or mopeds on any of the multi-modal paths in The Villages.

I have not ever seen an electric powered scooter before. At 18 mph, it sounds as though it could be a dangerous ride. Segways are allowed on the MultiModal trails. Seems reasonable that a UScooter would be allowed also.

As to legality on the streets, I haven't a clue.

Hope your brother plans to wear a bicycle helmt as well as elbow and knee protection.

He says that it’s on order! Maybe he will start a new craze in 2017 on the MultiModal trails.

My understanding is that motorcycles or scooters less than 50ccs are allowed on the paths. I've seen a few but I don't know if this applies to electric scooters.

Why not just a get a golf cart?

Probably for the same reason people buy scooters, Segways, motorcycles, trikes, etc...because they want to.

What is the understanding based on?

as their top speed well exceeds the 20mph on the MMP's. Most of them top out at 30-35mph.

electric scooter, but a lot more expensive. You can crash those two wheeled scooters with the tiny wheels and handlebars really quick. The segway has built in gyroscopes that keep it upright.

Death by Segway: The fallout

Quote:
When the owner of the Segway company dies while riding one of his own products, there's no way to escape the awkward irony within the tragedy.

The media was torn when James Heselden, 62, the British miner-turned-entrepreneur died Sunday after riding one of his company's upright two-wheel scooters off a 30-foot cliff and into a river.
