Gracie, dear, now that's funny. But isn't TV just like a bed of roses?

It often amazes me how much some people can resist change and progress. It’s true change is not always good but it is inevitable. Every place I have ever lived has grown and changed. When I was first born in the Dallas/Fort Worth area there were about 500,000 people. Today there are over 7,000,000.people. If you are not growing, you are stagnant. I like things the way they “were” but I NEVER want to stagnate. When we first looked here there were only 8,000 people...no Home Depot, Lowe’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. there was no Sumter Landing. Should they have stopped building then? Who are we to say that progress must stop?

Well, I haven't done this in a while, but I guess it's time for me to chime in again.:loco:

It's late and I don't remember exactly where the saying came from, but this seems to be "Much ado about nothing."

I, for one, love it that Harold Schwartz had the foresight and the family has carried it on for decades. I challenge anyone here to come up with a winner such as The Villages and then walk away and say, "OK, have at it, ya'll". Ain't gonna happen. Why should it?

Everyone came here because they wanted to come. We all came here for something other than what we already had. I know there are those who will get their 'knickers in a knot" when told that if they don't like it here, they can leave. What part of that statement is not true? That is not telling someone that they have to do so, anymore than telling them that they had to move here in the first place. I know for a fact, we didn't have a gun to our heads telling us what we were going to do.

As for the idea of turning it over to the residents, I will vote a resounding "NO". Why? Because it would cease to be well run and would go downhill faster than a snowball headed for hell. For crying out loud, there are too many already that cannot agree on anything simple, much less something as big as this place. It would be constant bickering, it would show, and everyone would suffer the consequences. Does it suit everyone now? Of course not. We are, after all, individuals. But, there are always those around who think they can build a better mousetrap. Most, if not all of us, did not come here to build mousetraps.

With this being primarily a retirement community, how many of us have generations left to worry about how big it is getting, anyway? I just feel that we should all be grateful for what we have instead of complaining about what we don't have or what someone else does have. Not only does the Morse family continue to grow their business and their profits (after all, isn't that what business is supposed to do), but we continue to reap the benefits while they put out the big bucks. Thank goodness, they are not the tightwads that some people here are.

That'snot going to happen. They will have a bridge or tunnels and cart paths connecting those southern most villages to Brownwood.

They would never have started that project if they didn't know for sure that they would be able to do it. These people are not idiots.

Exactly. My guess is that Fenny and the other southern villages were planned before Brownwood was developed. It always seemed odd to me that they would build a town square at the very edge of The Villages. Now it makes sense. Brownwood will eventually be centrally located.

Absolutely not acceptable as an idea. I lived in Calumet before, and I had a long drive to get to southern activities (i.e. I'm an avid billiards player and love that the billiards community comes from all over the villages.). Many of the activities are not necessarily adjacent to where your home is. This is part of why we move to the Villages!!!! Don't worry, it won't be a 'burden' to you just because Fenney is developing. I live in Fenney and love it. I'll be mainly going to Brownwood and Sumter Landing squares when I want to social opportunities they provide. The Villages developed BRILLIANTLY to ensure new Villages are fairly self-contained, yet have the wonderful sports and social offerings of the larger population!

I can recall in the days shortly after Lake Sumter Landing was announced, some folks questioning why the developer would put a town center at the southern most part of TV.

All one has to do is review the developers past track record of methodology. Very consistent and methodical. Never reveal any more future plans than absolutely required to do the job at hand. Keeps all options open for unknown better opportunities. They have had and still have a formula and track record of success. No matter what generation, they will not change that.

There will always be a new cadre of folks from else where who do not know TV back ground hence erroneous speculation/rumors.

We closed on our house in Fenney this week. Can't wait to see what the adventures we will have!

I have never done this before but as I read your post I was looking for the "Like" button so I could like it. What a great post and I totally agree. Welcome to the Villages, you are just as much one as anyone else (probably more than the OP is).

It seems like no matter what Villages live in here, it is the best village. It’s because all the neighbors are friendly and you bond with your neighbors; so welcome to the Villages and have a great life. Soon there are clubs and village socials, golfing buddies, luncheon groups. I have never lived anywhere the people were so helpful. Don’t believe all that stuff you hear, people are here to have fun and help each other. I think I live in the best village in The Villages as well. And the best neighborhood. You will love it here. Fenney is very pretty and somewhat isolated for now, but soon you will be able to get to the rest of the Villages. Just enjoy and don’t listen to the critics.
