I had a new refrigerator installed about 4pm yesterday afternoon. Was expecting it to be cold this morning, it is cooling, but no where near to what I thought it would be. How long does it take for a refrigerator to reach factory set temps?

I suppose it depends on make and model, but 24 hrs is usually a good rule of thumb. Is it indoors or in a garage or on the lanai?---that would make a difference as well. If it is on a GFCI, did it trip the outlet? Was warm beverage cans/bottles placed in it immediately?

I bought it as Lowes and it was installed in the kitchen by them yesterday and I was told to load it up with food from the old unit. Last night I lost everything in the freezer - soggy wet mess this morning. The milk in the fridge is warm, I have a gauge in there on a shelf and it is only reading 60 degrees, I would have thought it would be cooler than that by now. It seems like a heck of a long time to cool.

Agree. Should be at the proper temp by now. That's why they said you could transfer food to the new one relatively quickly. Contact Lowes and complain, and mention all the food you lost.

first things first.

Check the temp setting dial or switch inside the fridge, don't assume that it's set properly by installers. different models and brands have different settings and the delivery people are just delivery people. Look in the manual and verify that it's set properly. if its set per the manual then you have a bad unit

Thanks for your reply. Did everything you suggested and no luck. Lowes are replacing it tomorrow, but that does not replace the food I lost.

It's a GE, mid-range, no bells and whistles, it's supposed to freeze and cool and that's about it.

I have since been told we should have gone with a LG, supposed to be the best available. I do have an LG washer and it is excellent.

after a horror of repair after repair with a samsung( all within one year) all the repair guys recommended the LG model.. so far so good with the LG.

Latest and last update on my sad saga:

Called Lowes around 10:30ish to report problem. Nice young woman, told me I would be getting a call back. About 11am the Service Department Manager called and said he was on his way to our house. He and someone else came, checked the fridge, told me they would get me a new fridge first thing tomorrow morning.

Great service. We have always purchased from Lowes and will continue to do so. It's a pain in the backside when these things happen, but so nice to know you have a good company to rely on.

We dropped the freeze temp from 0 to -2 because of the extreme heat, helped with the icemaker?

Rubicon, not sure if you are addressing me or JSaggy. I had a mid-range GE. I have always had GE and never had a problem until this one, the last one was 12 yrs old when it died. My son's business took him to China and he recommended LG to me for a washing machine.
