Default Sidewalk Mystery

The town of Lady Lake or Lake County spent thousands of dollars putting in sidewalks along hwy 441 and immediately set up barricades stating "sidewalk closed". That has been over a year. What's the deal?

I don’t think it has been a year, but it is a mystery. Another question, why did they need a sidewalk in the first place?

That was my first reaction when I saw them start work. They also built sidewalks along Griffin Ave and Rte 25.

I have very rarely seen anyone ever walking in any of these locations. I'm guessing that some town official's brother-in-law has a concrete company.

I would guess that the delay in opening has to do with inspection and permitting. They probably need something similar to an occupancy permit that is needed for a building.

Hey, it's the South. They're waiting to make sure the concrete is real good and dry. Or, maybe the government project needs a few more committee meetings, inspections and extensive reports to determine that the concrete is really dry enough to walk on.

Default Sidewalk Mystery

They are waiting for all the crossing lights to be completed. It it were opened and someone got killed crossing 441 it would be lawsuit time. Note the lights are up and covered. Probably waiting for computer program to synchronize properly or maybe just to be plugged in. [emoji854]

IIRC construction started last summer.

LOL! That's what a Sheriff guy told me that I saw a few weeks ago at Dunkin' Donuts.

I’m guessing that this explanation is correct or close to being correct. If they had made the sidewalks wider they would have been good for bikes and golf carts. Few people will ever walk on them....... a waste of money.

I agree. Complete waste of money. I think we in The Villages are giving local government too much money. Like all government agencies, they need to work hard to think up ways to spend someone else's money. Maybe its a "build it and walkers will come".

441 is a state road. Sidewalks were funded by all FL taxpayers.

What NOMOSNOW says.

They also put in sidewalks all the way up Rolling Acres as well as CR25. There are people living in places other than in T.V. who might want to use them rather than walking along the streets to get home or to work.
