Little more info, where in the road, how large, how deep near any property?

It's in the middle of the road near a manhole cover. I'd say the sink hole is maybe 18" wide . The road is roped off with tape and cones. Yes... it's a street in the village of Lake Deaton. There are homes on both sides of the road.

My first thought would be with all the recent rain, and so close to manhole cover, could this just be a underground pipe issue?

I'd go with a drain collapse.

Yep, IMO like 99.999999999999% of all sinkholes in villages |

You would think, knowing that areas near The Villages are known for sinkholes, that they'd take extra precautions when running pipes underground to protect integrity of the roads and surrounding properties.

What would those 'extra precautions be? And why would they be made at what expense if not deemed in emergent need of same?

It's on the corner of Cross Hill Dr. and Vineland.

No. A pot hole is usually just an eruption of the pavement itself.
A sink hole is generally caused by nature, when natural limestone beneath the surface of the ground becomes saturated with water and starts to condense and collapse, bringing the ground with it. A ground collapse is usually considered a sink hole that is caused by overdevelopment on top of limestone, and poor management of water retention ponds, or leaks in drainage pipes that cause that disintegration of the limestone. In other words - "sink hole" usually refers to a natural occurrence, and parts of Florida are prone to it since most of Florida is built on sand and limestone. Ground collapses usually refer to a contruction-caused occurrence. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, but that tends to just confuse matters - and sometimes confusing matters is intentional to shift blame. |
